Wario’s a heavyweight, but he’s distinguished among bruisers by his motorcycle and by some of the best air speed. He can steer laterally while airborne quickly, and his neutral air attack and forward air attacks are both fast-hitting and long-lasting. Adding to that, Wario can pull out his Wario Bike special off the ground, getting a bit more loft on the initial rev, plus the chance to jump again by ditching the bike, basically a triple jump (plus the chance to drop a tossable item onstage).
All that air speed is good for Wario’s goal, which is getting in close for Chomp! Chomp is Wario’s centerpiece, a healing throw with a long grabbing period that’s perfect for springing on opponents just as they emerge from dodge rolls and ledge-climbing options. On top of letting Wario gnash on foes for self-healing and them-hurting, Chomp works on items. You can clear the board of pickups, both to deprive your opposition of them, and to refill Wario’s health. Just watch out for explosives!
Speaking of explosives, something’s rumbling in Wario’s belly as the match progresses. The ever-present threat of the noxious Wario Waft grows the longer you hold it in. Keep the gas bottled up for two minutes or longer, and Wario Waft becomes one of the strongest moves in the game! Fully, uh, charged Wario Waft (combined with deft aerial Wario Bike ditching) helps make up for Corkscrew’s predictable and rigid recovery path.
