Toon Link is relatively speedy and mobile for a fighter who specializes in projectile zone control, allowing him to pester foes while evading their attacks. Like Young Link and adult Link, his strengths lie in setting up traps with his myriad projectile options, alongside controlling the ground with his Boomerang and high-speed dashing.
Toon Link’s game plan revolves around safely unleashing Bombs, arrows, and Boomerangs from a distance. Smart projectile use is crucial; they can act as cover for his follow-up dash-in attacks, harass recovering enemies, and force foes to reposition or attack. His on-the-spot dodges and side rolls are some of the fastest in the game, allowing him to punish aggressive foes in situations that others may not.
Many of Toon Link’s melee attacks suffer from higher lag and slower start speeds when compared to adult Link’s, and his throw combos are slightly weaker than with many other fighters. His close-range tools are best used to deter enemy aggression with their intangible hitboxes. Additionally, he’s “floaty” compared to the other Links, making him slightly more vulnerable to juggle mix-ups coming from below.
While Toon Link shares near-identical special moves with the other Links, he can utilize them more efficiently thanks to his speed and mobility.
Toon Link’s Hero’s Shield can block projectiles as long as he’s standing still, crouching, or slowly walking forward. Additionally, Hero’s Shield is deactivated briefly whenever Toon Link turns around or transitions from standing to crouching and vice versa.
