Lucario is a Fighting- and Steel-type Pokémon with a special Aura mechanic that boosts its combat effectiveness the more damage it receives. In terms of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Lucario’s weight and movement attributes are all relatively middle-of-the-road, but with some distinctions. Lucario can crouch-crawl, cling to walls, and wall-jump. Because of the variable-heavy nature of Lucario’s Aura mechanic, performing its combos and setups requires a vast amount of experience. You have to adapt to situations on the fly, considering enemy fighter weight and current damage percentage in addition to Lucario’s current Aura state.
Lucario’s arsenal makes it an all-around strong fighter. Lucario doesn’t excel in any one aspect (except when its Aura is high and it’s behind in stocks, at which point its attacks hit extra hard!). Lucario’s attacks deal average damage, have average range, and are average in speed and end lag (although its grab attack is exceptionally quick).
As with many Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fighters, Lucario’s most effective attacks are its aerial ones. Neutral and forward air attack are versatile attacks used for initiating and ending combos, while down air attack is a quick-starting unique aerial attack with the added property of instantly halting Lucario’s airborne trajectory.
Lucario’s grapple attack is one of the fastest in the game, granting bonus opportunities for bashing grappled foes repeatedly before finishing the grapple with a palm-thrust or body-slam launch.
Lucario’s special-moves set is relatively conventional. It has a projectile, a counterattack parry, a multidirectional air dash, and a command throw (that doubles as a short-range projectile).
