Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Guide › Super Smash!

Adventure Mode

This is all new to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The sinister force Galeem assaults the heroes in horrifying fashion, decimating not just the battlefield but the world! And that’s just the beginning. The only survivor of Galeem’s attack is Kirby. He sets off across a jumbled and ruined world, uncertain of what he’ll find in the cataclysm’s wake.

Allies extinguished by Galeem at the outset were kidnapped and are now having their essences copied, made into hordes of soulless puppets. Bystanders to the battle, engulfed in the expanding aftermath, were rendered into ghostly spirits and forced to control these puppets, giving Galeem a shadow army to spread across the world.

As Kirby makes his way in the world, he’ll encounter these spirit-driven puppets, forced into mortal combat. Victories uncover more of the map, along with earning usable items and currencies. Defeating puppets also releases the spirits within, who will join Kirby!

Spirit Teams

Acquired spirits can be equipped almost like gear, having bonus effects on a fighter’s combat or exploration abilities. A primary spirit must be set first, then support spirits can be equipped as well to enhance it. Primary spirits can be trained in the Gym and Dojo, almost like Pokémon in daycare, raising the spirit’s abilities as you continue exploring and defeating Galeem’s puppets.

If you’re not sure which spirits to equip, the Y button can be used to auto-select a team, optimizing for current encounters. A recommended build for each fighter is also compiled here, straight from the testers at Nintendo!

Unlocking New Fighters

While navigating overland maps between battles, you may realize you’re about to encounter one of Kirby’s old friends, a captured brawler now shackled to produce puppets in their likeness. Victory in these fights releases the ally from Galeem’s grasp, getting them to Kirby’s side and unlocking them in all game modes!

By playing through Adventure Mode, you’ll eventually unlock access to every fighter available. Fighters can also be unlocked by completing Classic Mode.

Skill Tree

On top of boosting abilities through equipped spirits, a fighter’s power can also be enhanced via the Skill Tree. A currency known as skill spheres is used here to unlock tiles on the tree, earning uncovered boosts. A combination of solid, leveled-up spirit teams with skill tree unlocks helps prep the growing team of allies for the long road and challenging fights ahead.

Maps and Paths

Each of the three main over worlds shown here contains multiple sub-maps.
