Prep: Set Your Party to Only Use Magic Attacks
The boss resists Slash, Strike, and Shot attack types, so normal attacks don’t phase him at all. Attacking exclusively with artes that have a magical type is the key here. Assign only magical artes to everyone and also set their Action to Mainly Artes in your Strategy options.
Use Linked Artes during weakness-targeting combos and when it’s knocked down.
Tactics: Create an Opening with Magical Artes
The first time you battle this beast, it has an Iron Stance of 0, so any magical attack will stagger it. If you use an arte that has a magical attribute, you can follow it up with combos that include normal attacks as well as magical artes for big damage. Hitting its weakness five times can be difficult for Ludger alone, so coordinate with your party members to achieve knockdowns. Defeat its spawn first, because otherwise they’ll interfere with your party members’ attacks.
Knockdown: Hit Five of its Weaknesses
Knock the boss down by hitting its weakness five times consecutively. (In EX mode, you must hit its weakness nine times and follow up with a Linked Arte.) You can stagger it with magical attacks so you have time to switch weapons to keep the combo going.
Attacks to Watch Out For
Stone Powder: It kicks up a whirlwind that paralyzes targets within an area. Guard as soon as you see its wings flash red.
Tail Strike: This attack has a long reach and can leave you bleeding. If you see the boss raise its tail, immediately start guarding.

In EX, the boss’s Iron Stance is higher, making it dangerous to get close. It moves slowly and has no effective ranged attacks, so have Ludger link with Muzét and fight it from afar, using Rapid Burst to attack it and Support Warp to maintain your distance. Once you’ve pierced its guard, zip up to it and unleash elemental-type combos. In the EX fight, it doesn’t have spawn, so you can focus your attention on the boss.
