Prep: Have Ludger Set Hammer Toss
This boss is weak to Fire, making Ludger’s Fire-type Hammer Toss especially effective here, so make sure to set him to use it. Milla and Muzét both have access to good Fire-type artes, so use them too. Finally, this boss is very long and uses the size of its body to attack wide swaths of battlefield. You’ll definitely want Muzét’s Support Warp to help you evade its strikes.
Tactics: Launch Weakness-Exploiting Combos Off Hammer Toss
Stand about one back-step away from the boss when you use Hammer Toss and you should be in the perfect position to hit his weak spot—his head. Continue into a weakness-exploiting combo to earn a special knockdown. If you see the ! appear after a block, use Muzét’s Support Warp to rapidly back-step the hell out of there. This boss’s charge attacks have a good chance to break through blocks, so make a habit of dodging with free run or side-steps instead of blocking.
Knockdown: Hit Its Weakness at Least Six Consecutive Times
You can knock down the boss with a combo that hits its weakness at least six times (nine times in EX mode, followed by a Linked Arte). The boss’s iron guard is very strong, so it’s difficult to stagger him; it’s easiest to launch your combo off of a Fire-type attack to his head.
Attacks to Watch Out For
Charge: Breaks the guard of its target, so side-step or free run.
Shock Howling: Stuns all characters within a wide area. It takes about two seconds for the boss to execute this attack; start guarding when you see its name appear on screen.

Launching combos off of Hammer Toss works just as well in EX. A good hit to the boss’s head will stagger him, so it isn’t necessary to use Power Charge 3 here. Note that if the boss drives you to the edge of the battlefield, you won’t be able to evade its Charge or tail attacks—even with Support Warp—so you’ll want to use free run or side-steps to reposition yourself. The boss can swing his tail around him over a wide area, so always keep moving!
