Tales of Xillia 2 eGuide 2 Characters Gaius

Recommended Combos

A Normal Attack-Focused Combo that Saves TP

Step 1: , Step 2: , Step 3: Squall, Step 4: + , Step 5: +

Using only normal attacks and the Squall arte (which Gaius already knows when he joins the party), this combo uses a mere 6 TP. It’s a short combo at only five hits, but it’s a good way to conserve TP so you can afford to use more expensive artes like Eradication Sweep, and the combo leaves your foes few openings to interfere. If you want to boost its damage potential, kick things off by casting Savage Beckoning.

A Quick Combo Off of a Sonic Thrust

Step 1: Sonic Thrust, Step 2: + , Step 3: , Step 4: Hydra Strike, Step 5: Tiger Blade

The Sonic Thrust arte lets you attack while quickly closing the distance to far away foes. When you arrive at your target, continue the combo with the + and attacks, chained into the Hydra Strike and Tiger Blade artes. If you still have TP and AC to spare after the final Tiger Blade, you can continue the combo with another arte to boost your damage and increase the hit count.

Launch Your Foes Skyward for a Brutal Pummeling

Step 1: + , Step 2: , Step 3: Soaring Demon Fang, Step 4: Sonic Thrust, Step 5: Soaring Demon Fang

This combo launches your foes into the air for a variety of powerful attacks. The benefit of taking it to the skies is that Gaius’s dramatic mid-air movements make it difficult for other enemies to interfere with the combo. However, the timing of the various moves can be a little unforgiving, so this one might take some practice. Note that heavy foes will thud to earth after the first Soaring Demon Fang, but the Sonic Thrust will still connect, allowing you to keep the combo going.

A Combo That Keeps Going While Your AC Refills

Step 1: Hydra Strike, Step 2: Tiger Blade, Step 3: , Step 4: Swallow Fury, Step 5: Light of Ruin

The quickly executable Hydra Strike kicks off this combo, which continues with artes that use a variety of damage types. After Swallow Fury knocks your target down, promptly fire off a Light of Ruin arte. If the blades of light hit the foe as it’s getting up, they’ll prop him up. You can’t keep attacking a foe as it is being hit by the blade, so pause for a moment to refill your AC before continuing your onslaught.

Using Retribution as a Combo Starter

Step 1: Guard, Step 2: Front-Step, Step 3: Sonic Thrust, Step 4: Dragon Swarm, Step 5: Beast

This defensive combo is designed to put Gaius’s Retribution ability to good use. After guarding an enemy attack, immediately front-step to trigger Retribution and knock the foe into the air. Follow up with Sonic Thrust, Dragon Swarm, and finally Beast to knock your target down. If you still have AC to spare, use a + normal attack and the Pale Ghost arte to continue the combo and add to the damage.
