Ludger wakes up in a panic from a pretty dark nightmare. The dream manifested from the stress of taking the entrance exam that was given by his brother Julius. The task is pretty simple: slay five monsters lurking in the underground training area and return before time runs out.

Go through the initial combat tutorial and use the nearby Memory Ring (save point) to save the game. After your first fight is a good time to go through the game’s menus, especially the Library and the Battle Book.

There is only one kind of monster to deal with during the test and it shouldn’t be much of a challenge. Still, to avoid taking unnecessary damage, practice using free run to circle around the foe and attack from the back or side. Defeating five foes is not meant to be overly challenging, but make sure to collect all the treasures before wiping the enemies out and returning to your brother. On your treasure hunt, get used to navigating the map by jumping down from ledges and crawling into small enclosures. When your task is complete, return to the entrance and report back to Julius.

No matter what you choose, and even if you defeat the beast, the outcome is still the same—you fail the test.

Boss ???

Don’t try to fight this boss head-on or you won’t stand a chance. Its Thunder Breath is a dangerous frontal attack that should give you a chance to swing around the beast and attack from the back.

However, don’t be too eager to run in and attack from behind. This foe has a tail-slashing attack and a mule-like kick that will punish people too eager for a back attack. Also, don’t try to extend your combos for too long or the boss will retaliate. Use a hit-and-run approach each time the boss strikes and fails to connect.

Brother Bonding

Ludger was fated to fail the exam, but as a consolation he got a job at the cafeteria. Make some breakfast and use this time to bond with Julius and Rollo before heading out to the train station.
