Prep: Prepare to Resist Petrify and Stun
This boss’s attacks can inflict dangerous ailments like Petrify (from Grand Breath) and Stun (from Round Claw). Both have a wide area of effect, so you’ll want your party to be protected by items like Stone Ward and Stun Bracelet. The Power Charge 3 skill will come in handy again in this fight, so make sure to set it if you have it. The boss’s weak point is way up high, so it’s hard to hit with normal attacks.
Tactics: Use Free Run to Attack from Behind
This boss’s attacks may all have a wide area of effect, but few of them can hit you if you’re behind it. You do have to attack the boss head-on to get the special knockdown, but it’s far safer to make a habit of using free run to set up attacks from behind. This boss also burrows underground to attack from below. As soon as it does, begin guarding and charging up Power Charge 3, and prepare to retaliate with a weakness-exploiting combo immediately after the boss surfaces and completes its attack.
Knockdown: Attack Its Weak Point While it Roars
You can earn a special knockdown by hitting the boss in its mouth (its weak point) while it’s roaring. (You’ll need to hit it with a Linked Arte in EX mode.) You don’t need to do a lot of damage to succeed, so make sure to master this technique.
Attacks to Watch Out For
Grand Breath: Deals damage and causes Petrify. Even blocking won’t protect you from Petrify!
Rockfall Roar: The boss howls, causing stalactites to fall down from the ceiling. As soon as the boss looks upward to howl, start blocking!
EX: Give Yourself the Ability to Absorb Earth

If you acquire a Red Cape as a poker prize or a custom order, you’ll be able to absorb the Earth-type damage from Grand Breath and Rockfall Roar, making this battle a breeze. Of course not all of the boss’s attacks are Earth type, so you still have to guard diligently. Guard continuously with Power Charge 3 set, and retaliate with your own attack after the boss uses an Earth-type move. Also, use Milla’s Cloud Pierce to target the boss’s weak spot.
