Playing the Poker Mini-Game

To access this mini-game, you must complete Event Quest 15—Poker Face. To play poker, head to Duval and enter the bar called “Film Noir”. You have to buy chips from the bartender before you can play, and he will also exchange chips for prizes.

When you are ready to try your luck, speak to the Masked Dealer.

If you get at least two pair, you get a prize corresponding to the value of your hand, and will be given a chance to double up (to go double-or-nothing) in the following bonus round(s). If you want to increase your chips quickly, make hands of at least two pairs and continuously double up. A good strategy when choosing to double up is if you see a number less than 8 select HIGH, and select LOW for 9 or higher as described below.

How to Play Poker

• Make specific combinations by exchanging and arranging a hand of five cards. Winnings will be given in chips.
• A deck of 54 cards will be used (52 cards + 2 jokers).
• Select card(s) to be exchanged from your hand.
• You can double up once you have a poker hand.
• Doubling up is when you guess whether the next card will be higher or lower than the last card dealt. Get it right, and you’ll double your winnings!
• You can double up eight times in a row. If two cards of the same value are dealt, it is treated as a loss.
• The value of the cards when doubling up is the same as in poker.

Rules

• A bet is any number between 10 and 100 chips.
• With one pair, it is declared a draw and chips are refunded.
• A joker can be used as a substitute for any card.

The chips you earn in this game can be redeemed for a number of precious items that will make your life much easier. If you have Gold Dice or Silver Dice items in your possession when you start a game of poker, the Use item option will appear and you’ll be able to select which dice you wish to use. The Gold Dice make flushes occur more frequently, while Silver Dice make more jokers appear. You can use both dice together if you like. The effect lasts for four or five games, allowing you to earn a large amount of chips quickly.

To accumulate chips, use the Gold Dice item. If you win using this, it’s possible to get 179200 chips at one go. To do so, buy chips with gald, redeem them for the Gold Dice item, then save your game before you sit down to play. The Gold Dice item will ensure you a flush four or five times in a row, so double up for eight straight wins. If you have extra chips left over and you want to cash out, buy Iolite Ore, which can be sold for 20000 gald.
