Tales of Xillia 2 eGuide 2 Characters Milla Maxwell

Use Aerial Skills to Strike from the Heavens

Certain skills will allow Milla to significantly increase the amount of actions she can take in mid-air, and by activating all of the following skills, you can make mid-air combat into her primary focus. Milla’s artes can generally be executed more quickly in mid-air, and the Aerial Force skill can boost their damage as well. Aerial combat can be tricky until you get the hang of it, but it’s one of the foundations of Milla’s strength as a character, so it’s well worth learning.

Aerial Combat Basics

Use Mid-Air Quick-Steps for Positioning

If there’s an enemy below you after you finish a mid-air combo, use front- and back-steps to find a safer spot to return to earth.

Casting Mid-Air Artes with Aerial Spell

With the Aerial Jump skill active, you can reach twice the height of a normal jump. Casting artes from that position is a powerful strategy, as few enemies are capable of interfering.

Mid-Air Combat Skills
SkillEffect When Active

Jump Cancel

You can cancel out of attacks by jumping.

Aerial Force

You deal 10% additional damage against mid-air foes.

Aerial Bind

When you attack a mid-air foe, your target is staggered for 25% longer.

Aerial Guard

You can guard in mid-air.

Aerial Jump

You can jump while in mid-air.

Aerial Jump 2

After performing an Aerial Jump, you can jump one additional time.

Aerial Backstep

You can perform back-steps in mid-air.

Aerial Dash

You can perform front-steps in mid-air.

Aerial Spell

You can cast spirit artes in mid-air (but you can’t spirit-shift them).

Quick Drop

Press while in mid-air to land instantly.

Safe Landing

Reduces recovery time when landing from a jump by 50%.

Aerial Armor

You won’t get staggered when attacked in mid-air.

Skills Reward Chaining Artes and Spirit-Shifts Together

By activating certain skills, you can gain special effects by chaining artes and spirit-shifts together. The Free Shift skill reduces TP costs, while the Stable Shift skill prevents enemies from staggering you while casting spells. Using these skills will allow you to make more effective use of advanced artes with high TP costs and long casting times.

Example Arte/Spirit-Shift Chains

When launching an attack from long range, try chaining a magical arte with a long casting time into a spirit-shifted arte. When launching a close-range combo, chain quick spirit-shifted artes into magical artes.

Use the Jude Sync Skill to Reach Foes in a Flash

Milla’s agility is merely average, which makes it difficult for her to reach and eliminate foes who cast powerful artes from a distant position. But the Jude Sync skill provides a solution: When it’s active and Milla is linked with Jude, Milla will be able to use the same Snap Pivot ability as Jude. Doing so will allow her to evade enemy attacks while instantly closing the distance between herself and the foe.

Using Snap Pivot to Evade and Counter

Time a back-step for when your foe is launching an attack, and you’ll evade its strike while instantly circling behind it. Then seize the opening to launch a combo for heavy damage.
