Speak with Vitruvius
While syncing with the Viewpoint atop the aqueduct, you can spot a workers’ camp below (1). Investigate the commotion in the camp. Speak to Vitruvius, the Roman surveyor standing up for the rights of the Siwan workers. Vitruvius’s dioptra has been stolen and work has stopped. Bayek must find the tool.
Find Dedi at the Construction Site
Climb to the aqueduct’s top and follow the marker to locate Dedi (2). He thinks you are there to flog him and runs from you. Catch him and he’ll tell you that he left the dioptra in the cave; when he came back from lunch, it was gone.
Find and Collect the Dioptra Pieces
Necropolis Hideout
Prerequisite: Approach the hideout

Location Objectives: Kill one captain and one commander, loot two treasures
There are three pieces of the dioptra to find in and around the cave (3). Run along the aqueduct’s top and enter the cave tunnel. Send Senu up over the mountaintop to locate the three pieces of the dioptra, two of which are in an exterior ruins outpost. Climb the waterfall inside the cave to continue to the next cavern, which is very dark.
First Dioptra Piece
Jump into the pool of water in the dark cave and climb the north cave wall. You find a well-lit wooden walkway above and a bandit to your left. Kill this guy and fill up on arrows. You can go three directions from here; just remember that you will be returning to this cave later. You can head outside through the sunlit exit behind the bandit you killed (this is the exit you need to use later) or you can head deeper into the cave system through one of the two tunnels on the opposite side.
Travel through the higher cave tunnel on the right where the objective marker appears. A bandit patrols this tunnel.
Kill the bandit in the tunnel. He was guarding the Dioptra Piece. Pick it up from the table on the right. Break the large vase on the floor next to the Dioptra Piece to reveal a small slide under hole. Find the first treasure inside the hidden room. Exit the room through the same small slide under hole.
Second Dioptra Piece
Continue through the unexplored direction of the tunnel. You reach a large, well-lit cave occupied by three bandits. Assassinate the closest one and then put arrows in the other two. During the battle, the captain may come running out of a nearby tunnel. Assassinate him as well. Instead of heading outside from this cave, turn back and retrace your steps to the last cavern where you came up through the large hole in the floor (the one where we mentioned you will be returning to).
Exit the cave into that sunlit area where you find a guy hanging from a tree. Climb the stairs behind and to the right of the hanging man; then climb a ladder to a ledge where the tunnels continue through the mouth of a cave (that looks like it has teeth).
You find a fire in the middle of the next clearing, a haystack you can hide in, and a dark cave continuing along the ground level. Enter the cave and head down the southwest tunnel. There you find the commander. Kill him and any of his guards.
Free the rebels in captivity in this cave. Head to the platform atop the northwest cages. Read a letter near a guy hanging on the wall. You receive Side Quest: Taking Liberty.
On this ledge’s south end is the second Dioptra Piece. Pick it up.
Third Dioptra Piece
Freeing the captives gets the bandits outside the cave in an uproar, and they flood into the cave looking for you. One of the bandits is tagged with an objective marker. Kill this one to acquire the final Dioptra Piece. If he does not rush into the cave, then you’ll find him outside in the ruins near the last treasure.
The final treasure to complete the location objective is outside. If you follow the tunnel where the bandits were coming from, then you reach an exterior mountain ledge. Send Senu up and you’ll find a camp with an insane number of high-level soldiers. The treasure is located here. If you didn’t get the last Dioptra Piece, then the bandit holding it will be here too. Have Senu mark the target; then just rush in, steal it, grab the treasure, and get out quickly, if you don’t want to battle everyone.
Bring the Dioptra to Vitruvius at the Aqueduct
Use the aqueduct Viewpoint to travel back to the workers’ camp (1). Dive into the haystack below and talk to Vitruvius.
