The year is 49 BCE, well into the 33rd dynasty of the Ptolemaic period and only two years since Cleopatra VII and Ptolemy XIII were named co-rulers of Egypt. It is a tumultuous time; after Cleopatra VII is forced into exile by her younger brother, she plots her return in an attempt to regain her rightful spot on the throne.
