DIRECT CATCH TO TRIANGLE CHOKE
Level 2—Open Guard Clinch, Bottom

This is an awesome submission from the clinch range. Throw some strikes and knees, then hit this technique submission to a crafty armbar with the possibility for a submission switch to a triangle.
STRENGTHS
- Heart
- Strength
Despite his mediocre submission ratings, Tiequan “The Wolf” Zhang can needle his way into some impressive Level 2 submissions whenever he gets his hands on his opponent.
He is a strong feather- weight with a good right hand.
He’s never been knocked out and even caught the crafty Pablo Garza in a guillotine choke for an impressive win in 2010.
His mid-70s ratings for striking on the feet aren’t going to dazzle you, but he is solid all the way around.
Zhang’s skill set is wide, so let the submission attempts fly from all angles.
Take down your opponents and get on top for some ground-and-pound to catch your opponent off guard and prevent reversals.
WEAKNESSES
- Cardio
- Movement and footwork
- Kicks
Zhang is a bit of a plodding featherweight, and he wants to get his hands on his opponents to submit them.
Keep your distance and keep the fight standing and out of the clinch. Hammer him with leg kicks to slow him further and use boxing combinations to wear him down.
He’s most susceptible to kicks, though, so mix in a head kick at the end of a combo to rattle him for a quick knockout.
For all of his submission skills, he is not rated very high, so if your fighter’s submission defense is solid, wade in and get on top for some transitions and a possible submission of your own.
