LEFT/RIGHT HEAD KICK WHILE STANDING UP

Why just get up? Use this head kick to stand up.

STRENGTHS

  • Knockout power
  • Pro kickboxer
  • Solid chin

Sam “Hands of Stone” Stout is a kickboxer with great knockout power. It is to your advantage if you keep the fight standing to take advantage of his tough-as-nails stand-up, good cardio, and footwork.

Stout has had some wars in the ring with some of the top talent in the UFC, and recently posted a Knockout of the Night first-round KO over the tough Yves Edwards. Stay in striking range and use his switch kick and spinning backfists to rock your opponent on his feet.

Put your opponent in the Muay Thai Clinch and use knees and elbows up against the cage for some additional punishment. If the fight goes to the ground, get to guard and push your opponent off you to stand up. We liked the head kick while standing up.

WEAKNESSES

  • Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu
  • Wrestling

Stout has never been knocked out in the Octagon, but he has been submitted. Do not stand and bang with him; take this fight to the mat where he has more of a struggle. His in-game skill set is pretty sparse when it comes to takedowns, grappling, or submissions, so if that is your fighter’s game, take advantage!

Putting Stout on the ground reduces his knockout power, keeps him in one place, and opens up a perfect opportunity for you to ground-and-pound on the way to a submission attempt—he’s fallen victim to the rear naked choke twice in his career.

If you’re having trouble closing the distance and taking him down, protect your head and clinch. He’s a good clinch striker, but you can win the takedown battle from there. Drop down and grab a leg or use a trip or judo throw to take him down.
