STRENGTHS
- Boxing
- Speed
- Clinch wrestling
A wrestler by trade, Antonio Banuelos is also a gifted striker with impressive speed and footwork. This gives him a rounded game and makes him a constant threat in every fight. Use his speed to string together swift combos on the feet, but beware of getting caught in the exchange.
Look to clinch up with the opponent and impose Banuelos’s strong clinch game, pummeling to dominant position and setting up brutal suplexes that land you in Side Control.
Work some heavy ground-and-pound from the top and transition to North/South or Mount to attempt a quick finish by way of armbar. He also has some very effective chokes from the Back Side Control and Back Mount positions.
WEAKNESSES
- Cardio
- Ground grappling
- Ground striking
Antonio’s lack of cardio is his most glaring weakness, and places him at risk of being rocked more often. This forces him to remain tactical on the feet, and also means that he’ll begin to fade more quickly as the fight progresses into the later rounds.
Best Banuelos by pushing the pace and forcing him to work constantly from bell to bell. Wear him down with kicks and punches to the body to attack his cardio directly.
Sap his energy and look for the knockout when he begins to play defense and cover up his midsection. You can really work over Banuelos if you can manage to take him down and then punish his ribs with heavy blows.
