ULTIMATE TECHNIQUES
ONE STEP LEFT HEAD KICK
Level 3 - Both Standing, Striking Range
This lightning-quick head kick will rock Aldo’s opponents in a flash if they foolishly choose to stand and fight him from range.
STRONG LEFT/RIGHT KNEE
Level 3 - Muay Thai Clinch, Offense
Aldo’s foes can’t withstand many of these devastating clinch knees. Look to score them each time you clinch up.
LEFT/RIGHT ELBOW
Level 3 - Open Guard, Top
No need to transition to dominant position with Aldo—his elbow strikes are lethal in every ground position, including Open Guard.
STRENGTHS
- Very well rounded
- Knockout power
- Speed
Though still relatively young, Jose Aldo is already considered to be one of the greatest fighters of all time.
His excellent technique and incredible athleticism allow Aldo to control the pace of the fight and dominate his foes with speed, accuracy, and relentless aggression.
Aldo knows a vast array of techniques in many positions, so make liberal use of the Technique Modifier trigger while fighting with him.
Nearly all of his technique moves are as strong as they can be—this allows Aldo to instantly end fights from any position, making him a constant threat to his opponents throughout each match.
WEAKNESSES
- Clinch Grappling
- Ground Bottom Grappling
If Jose Aldo can be said to have any weakness, one might point to his occasionally being controlled by top-notch grapplers in the clinch and on the ground, as recently evidenced in his epic battles against Kenny Florian and Mark Hominick.
Unless you’re supremely confident in your striking ability, it’s best to avoid lingering in Aldo’s striking range—he can quickly light you up with blistering combos and catch you off guard with unexpected counters that can quickly rock you.
Strike with Aldo just long enough to set up a clinch or takedown, then strive to maintain a dominant grappling position by blocking all of Aldo’s transition attempts and chipping away at his stamina with fists and knees to the body.
