ULTIMATE TECHNIQUES

DRIVING DOUBLE LEG TAKEDOWN

Level 3—Both Standing, Striking Range

Brown has an excellent takedown that can overpower most opponents and force them onto their back. Take your rival to the mat with a takedown ASAP.

SUPLEX TO SIDE CONTROL, TOP

Level 2—Double Underhook, Offense

This powerful wrestling throw lands Brown in dominant Side Control. Advance to North/South position and then work at securing a choke.

SWEEP TRANSITION TO OPEN GUARD, TOP

Level 2—Sprawl, Bottom

Brown has great takedown ability—and should his shot somehow be stuffed, he can escape from the bottom of the Sprawl position with an aggressive sweep that lands him on top in Open Guard.

STRENGTHS

  • Knockout power
  • Aggressive style

Mike Brown is a strong featherweight grappler with great takedowns and brutal ground-and-pound. Brown is at his best when he’s got his opponent pinned to the mat and is raining down heavy strikes from the top.

Use his powerful, driving takedowns to bring the opponent to the ground—and if he somehow manages to stuff your shot, try performing a technique transition sweep to Open Guard.

Brown is a beast on top, able to punish his opponents with crushing hooks and hammer fists from many dominant ground positions—use his exceptional grappling ability to posture up into sub position and fire away, battering your rival to achieve the TKO.

WEAKNESSES

  • Speed
  • Cardio
  • Clinch grappling

Brown is slow compared to most other featherweights, which places him at risk of being countered on the feet. His cardio is also somewhat lacking, so it’s possible to remain conservative and outwork him over the course of the fight.

Be patient against Brown and don’t let him get his hands on you. Avoid the grappling game and out-strike him on the feet with superior speed and reflexes.

Deny all of his takedowns and clinch attempts, and beware of his ability to sweep you onto your back even after you sprawl and stuff his shot.

If your fighter is also a skilled grappler, try clinching up with Mike—you’ll find he lacks control in this area of the fight game.

Score a takedown from the clinch and control Brown from the top—he isn’t particularly good at improving his position on bottom or escaping back up to standing.
