You’ve got to start somewhere, and all Career Mode fighters begin in a low-tier MMA organization known as the World Fighting Alliance (WFA).
Here you’ll work on developing your skills as you take on other hungry up-and-comers who are also looking to make a name for themselves in the sport. The first thing you’ll need to do is schedule a fight.
Opponent Selection
After choosing to schedule a fight, you’re shown a list of available opponents. Scroll through their names to view their information on the right. Use the triggers to scroll through the following panels of info:
Fight Information: Here you see the Cred you’ll earn for taking the fight, along with the number of actions you’ll get to perform during training before the fight occurs. (Read on for details!)
Stat Comparison: This important page reveals a complete statistical breakdown of you and your opponent. Use the triggers to cycle through sub-panels to view all the stats. Always study your opponent’s strengths and weaknesses carefully when devising a strategy!
Last 3 Career Fights: This page shows you the method with which your opponent won his last three fights. This can give you clues as to his finishing style and ability, or insight into how you might exploit his defensive game.
Fighter Summary: This page examines your opponent’s fights, providing a graphical chart that breaks down all of his finishes. The opponent’s top three strengths are also conveniently listed at the bottom. Put this information to good use when developing your game plan!
The Cred System
UFC Undisputed 3 features a unique system of currency called Cred. You earn Cred for participating in fights, and you spend your Cred to purchase training programs and shop items.
You need Cred in order to train and develop, so it’s important to earn all the Cred you can. The more challenging the opponent, the more Cred you’ll earn by taking him on!
Special Circumstances
Many fight offers come with special circumstances that are noted by a banner appearing at the bottom of the opponent’s portrait. (If no banner appears on the portrait, then the fight features no special circumstances.) Here are the potential fight circumstances you might see during your career:
Tune-Up Fights: These fights are considered to be easy wins for you, but they offer you significantly fewer Cred payouts. Take these when you’re feeling in over your head in a division and just need a win to get you through to the next round of training sessions.
Fill-In Fights: You get substantially more Cred for accepting these short-notice fights, but the trade-off is that you may take only one pre-fight action before the fight occurs. Accept these fights when you’re finding the competition to be lacking, or whenever you wish to pad your Cred.
#1 Contender Fights: To be the man, you’ve got to beat the man. Winning one of these high-profile fights guarantees you a title shot against the division’s champion in your next bout!
Title Fights: Pat yourself on the back—you must be doing something right, because you’re fighting either to win or to defend the championship belt! Leave it all in the cage and come out victorious to cement your legacy as one of the UFC’s best.
UFC Scouted Fights: Take on one of these important fights to impress a UFC talent scout who’ll be in attendance. Put on a show and you just might be offered a UFC contract sooner rather than later!
New Division Fights: Tired of facing the same competition in your current weight class? Why not fight in a whole new division!
Accept fights in the weight class directly above or below the one you selected when creating your fighter, and you’ll really impress your fans. This is a great way to earn bonus Cred through special honors such as magazine covers and Fighter of the Year awards!
PRIDE Grand Prix: Take the opportunity to accept rare fights in PRIDE, and you may be offered a chance to fight in a Grand Prix tournament. Win all three rounds of the tournament by defeating all three opponents you face to secure your place in history as a true champion of PRIDE!
Champion vs. Champion: It’s the ultimate showdown: UFC champion vs. UFC champion! Win and defend the title until you’re offered a chance to fight in a new division.
Rack up a few wins in that division without losing your current title, and you’ll eventually be offered a fight against the other division’s champion!
Win an epic Champion vs. Champion fight to ensure your legacy as a true legend of MMA and secure your place in the UFC Hall of Fame!
