ULTIMATE TECHNIQUES

LEFT/RIGHT FRONT UPPER KICK

Level 3 - Both Standing, Striking Range

Though far from Grove’s most powerful kicks, these high-level technique strikes take perfect advantage of his long legs, helping him punish aggressive adversaries as he maintains the ideal striking distance.

LEFT/RIGHT DOWNWARD ARCING ELBOW

Level 3 - Muay Thai Clinch Cage, Offense

Grove’s elbows are lethal in the Muay Thai Clinch, especially when he presses his opponent against the cage. Trap his rivals in the web of “Da Spyder” by working them over with clinch strikes against the cage.

RIGHT/LEFT ELBOW

Level 3 - Open Guard, Top

Continue to feed Grove’s opponents a steady diet of elbows from the top position whenever the action hits the ground. He can also deliver these same deadly elbows in the Half Guard and Mount positions.

STRENGTHS

  • Height
  • Heart
  • Well rounded

Kendall “Da Spyder” Grove is a tall fighter who uses his great height and reach to his advantage during every aspect of the fight game.

Use Grove’s excellent reach and kicking ability to attack his opponents from the outside, landing quick strikes against them from a range that most rivals cannot effectively counter.

He doesn’t pack much power in his hands and is vulnerable to the takedown, so don’t get too wild with his strikes—use his footwork to set up fast combos and counters as you focus on maintaining distance from the opponent on the feet.

He’s also dangerous in the clinch, wielding some very nasty Muay Thai elbows and knees that can quickly cut or rock his rival.

While Grove can work for some pretty decent submissions on the ground, his grappling ability isn’t strong enough to let him gain dominant position against most opponents.

Unless his rival struggles at ground defense, it’s usually best to stick with his clinch or striking game, where he can utilize his reach more effectively.

WEAKNESSES

  • Strength
  • Cardio
  • Takedown defense

Grove enjoys a tremendous height and reach advantage over most of his opponents, so it’s important to negate this natural advantage by staying aggressive and fighting Da Spyder on the inside.

Get in his face and smash him with superior speed and power on the feet—he isn’t known for his ability to take a flush punch, and you don’t have to hit him many times to rock him and send him spinning down to the mat.

Though strong in offensive clinch positions, he struggles to defend himself against clinch strikes and can be smashed in the clinch when pitted against stronger rivals who can control the position with greater success.

Grove is also vulnerable to takedowns and ground-and-pound, and his wrestling game isn’t terribly advanced—duck under one of his long kicks and bring him to the mat with a short takedown, then move out of his dangerous guard so you can freely beat him down with some heavy ground-and-pound.
