STRENGTHS
- Knockout power
- Heart
- Aggressive style
“The New York Bad Ass,” Phil Baroni wins most of his fights by overwhelming his opponents with relentless aggression. A powerful boxer whose hands can put opponents to sleep in a blink, Baroni enjoys moving forward and chasing after the KO.
Use his speed and striking power to land sharp blows and short combos, but avoid prolonged exchanges in an effort to spare Baroni’s lackluster gas tank. If the opponent is getting the better of you on the feet, use Phil’s speed to close in so you can clinch or score a takedown.
The New York Bad Ass can devastate his opponents with overwhelming strikes in the clinch or on the ground as well as on the feet.
WEAKNESSES
- Kicks
- Standing strike defense
Baroni is a brawler with great speed and power in his hands, but his poor cardio and standing strike defense make him vulnerable to his opponent’s punches on the feet.
Try to rock Baroni in the stand-up battle by throwing powerful punches, and look to work the body as well as the head to attack Baroni’s stamina. Beat him in the striking battle if you’re able to overcome his speed—otherwise, go for a takedown and try to advance position, working to secure a submission.
You don’t need to fear Baroni’s abysmal jiu-jitsu game on the ground—simply focus on blocking his strikes and improving position if you ever find yourself stuck on bottom.
