ULTIMATE TECHNIQUES

FORREST'S LEFT HEAD KICK

Level 3 - Both Standing, Striking Range

Griffin throws his signature head kick with great range and accuracy. Unleash this excellent technique strike to crack his adversaries with an unexpected shin to the chin.

SUPLEX TO SIDE CONTROL

Level 2 - Double Underhook, Offense

When standing takedowns aren’t doing the job, bring Griffin’s opponents to the ground in style with this huge suplex, available from either the Double Underhook or Body Lock clinch.

DIRECT CATCH TO TRIANGLE

Level 2 - Open Guard Clinch, Bottom

A well-rounded fighter, Griffin has the ability to threaten with triangles when fighting off of his back. Move the top opponent into Open Guard Clinch or Butterlfy Guard to attempt this wicked technique sub.

STRENGTHS

  • Well rounded
  • Heart
  • Conditioning

Forrest Griffin is one of the most recognized faces in mainstream MMA today.

This well-rounded UFC warrior’s epic display of heart during the original season finale of The Ultimate Fighter helped catapult the sport of MMA to the glorious state of mainstream exposure it now enjoys.

Rely on Griffin’s great cardio and push the pace against his rivals, working to overwhelm them with his exceptional conditioning.

Throw plenty of powerful kicks on the feet to break down his opponents from range, but don’t get too aggressive because Griffin is susceptible to the takedown.

Avoid the clinch, where he’s weakest, but feel confident taking the fight to the ground if the chance permits—Griffin has an underrated ground game and can work for some nasty submissions from both the top and bottom when fighting on the floor.

WEAKNESSES

  • Strength
  • Clinch grappling
  • Ground-and-pound

Though he brings a well-rounded skill set and a deep gas tank with him into the Octagon, this former UFC light heavyweight champion isn’t the most athletic fighter in his division.

Wherever the fight against Griffin happens to go, try to get the better of him with superior speed and explosiveness.

His kicks are his most dangerous weapons on the feet, so swarm him in the striking battle and don’t linger within his kicking distance.

Clinch up to exploit his lack of control and offense in the clinch—press him against the cage for maximum benefit over the position.

Work him over with heavy strikes in the Muay Thai Clinch; they will quickly add up against the former champ.

Score big clinch throws and takedowns to land in dominant position on the ground, thereby preventing Griffin from attacking with his dangerous submissions from the bottom.
