ULTIMATE TECHNIQUES
DUCKING LEFT/RIGHT HOOK
Level 2—Both Standing, Striking Range
Though known for his wrestling ability, “The Monster” can put his great strength behind these heavy hooks, which he throws with elusive technique to avoid being countered during the attack.
DRIVING DOUBLE LEG TAKEDOWN
Level 3—Both Standing, Striking Range
Few can resist Randleman’s driving double leg, which he can change levels and duck in for with surprising speed and power. More often than not, he’ll get his opponent to the ground.
SUPLEX TO SIDE CONTROL, TOP
Level 3—Double Underhook, Offense
Though his takedowns are exceptionally powerful and explosive, “The Monster” can achieve the same result with less risk of being countered by clinching with his opponents and suplexing them hard to the mat.
STRENGTHS
- Wrestling
- Former NCAA champion
- Strength
Kevin “The Monster” Randleman is a powerful and explosive wrestler with great strength and striking ability in most grappling positions.
Use his strength and speed to blast in with a driving double leg and bring his opponent to the mat.
Then use Randleman’s dominant ground game to pass his adversary’s guard and smash him with brutal ground-and-pound from the top.
“The Monster” is a ground-and-pound machine—advance to Mount and posture up to unleash his heaviest blows from the top.
His knees are also lethal from positions such as North/South when fighting in PRIDE—make good use of these and punish opponents with his superior grappling control and relentless striking.
WEAKNESSES
- Kicks
- Ground bottom grappling
“The Monster” uses his explosive athleticism to make up for his lack of technique in the stand-up game, using his great speed and strength to smash his opponents with heavy hooks and uppercuts on the feet.
Of course, his best weapon in the stand-up department is his huge double leg takedown, which is what his opponents must fear—keep far away from him to prevent him from easily shooting in, and land hard leg kicks against him from the outside to slow “The Monster” down as you look to counter his attempts to take you down.
Keep him standing to prevent him from imposing his overwhelming grappling game, and focus on blocking his transitions and defending against his ground-and-pound whenever “The Monster” drags you to the mat.
Though he’s dominant on top, he’s not good at fighting off of his back, and he’s also vulnerable to submissions—jiu-jitsu specialists can have success fighting him on the ground, rolling with him as they look to secure a fight-ending sub.
