ULTIMATE TECHNIQUES
OVERHAND RIGHT
Level 2 - Both Standing, Striking Range
The excellent speed, range, and power of this standing technique strike let Mighty Mouse slip in and crack his rivals with hard right hands on the feet. Land this excellent strike as often as you can.
LEFT QUICK SUPERMAN PUNCH
Level 2—Both Standing, Striking Range
Work in this stinging technique strike to clip Johnson’s rivals with a sharp, unexpected left. Combo between the Overhand Right and this excellent blow to rapidly rock his opponents.
SWEEP TRANSITION TO HALF GUARD, TOP
Level 1—Half Guard, Bottom
When rolling with dangerous grapplers, use this excellent technique transition from Half Guard to sweep the opponent onto his back. This is a great way for Mighty Mouse to escape from the bottom.
STRENGTHS
- Speed
- Conditioning
- Finishing ability
One of the fastest strikers in the UFC bantamweight division, Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson gives his opponents all they can handle in the stand-up game with his excellent footwork and blistering hand speed.
Mighty Mouse also has excellent footwork and comes into every fight in great shape, allowing him to push the pace and rattle off endless striking combinations without tiring.
Land his stiff technique strikes when exchanging on the feet—their impressive speed helps them land fairly often, and their added power makes up for Johnson’s slight lack of strength.
He isn’t as effective in the clinch or on the ground as he is when lighting his opponents up on the feet, but he can exercise good control in these grappling positions—use his grappling ability to your advantage when faced with dangerous strikers who lack wrestling defense.
WEAKNESSES
- Clinch striking
- Ground striking
- Kick defense
Though his standing strikes come with punishing power, Mighty Mouse is far less effective when striking in most grappling positions.
Try to clinch or shoot on him when he starts to open up with heavier punches and kicks on the feet.
He remains quick in the clinch and on the ground, but his striking power is significantly reduced, taking the sting out of his blows.
Strive to control these positions to hamper Johnson’s offense and impose some strikes of your own.
If you’re having trouble grappling with him, try picking him apart with long strikes from the outside instead—he is particularly vulnerable to kicks, and the short reach of most of his strikes severely limits his options when he’s forced to box from the outside.
