ULTIMATE TECHNIQUES

RIGHT/LEFT MUAY THAI HEAD KICK

Level 2 - Both Standing, Striking Range

“The Fluke” throws lethal head kicks when fighting his opponents on the feet. Look to land these heavy technique strikes, which rank among his best standing attacks.

JUMPING SINGLE LEG TAKEDOWN

Level 2 - Both Standing, Striking Range

Bring the fight to the ground in short order with this leaping single leg, which is tough to stuff. Once the action hits the mat, you’ll be able to work Grispi’s strong submission grappling game.

DIRECT CATCH TO GUILLOTINE CHOKE

Level 3 - Sprawl, Top

Grispi can apply a high-level guillotine against opponents who fail to properly time their takedowns against him. Look for this same excellent choke when he finds himself in seated positions against the cage.

STRENGTHS

  • Finishing ability

Josh “The Fluke” Grispi is a well-rounded fighter with solid striking, wrestling, and submission skills.

He has a particularly excellent guillotine choke that can be applied after sprawling against his opponent’s takedown or whenever he finds himself seated against the cage on bottom.

Use Grispi’s strong kicks to punish his opponents from the outside, or pressure them on the feet, looking to set up the takedown.

Get the fight to the ground so you can work his impressive ground striking and submission game.

Work your way to dominant position so you can lock in strong submissions, such as armbars from Mount.

He’s also good at catching his rivals in subs from the bottom should they decide to take him down and test his skills on the ground.

However, Grispi’s best submissions are chokes applied from behind or armbars secured from dominant top position.

WEAKNESSES

  • Clinch grappling

Josh Grispi is a dangerous fighter with good submissions and a solid all-around skill set, but he’s been shown to have certain vulnerabilities in the striking department.

Exploit his lackluster speed and shoddy footwork by catching him with quick strikes and counters from the outside.

Keep your distance to avoid being taken down by “The Fluke”—you don’t want to struggle against his strong submission game.

Though Grispi doesn’t shine in the clinch, he does know how to use the position to bring his rivals to the mat—avoid clinching with him unless you’re supremely confident in your fighter’s grappling ability, instead favoring the striking game, where he can be picked apart with less risk.

Bring kicks if your fighter is able to damage Grispi’s legs and slow him down, making him even more vulnerable to your elusive offense.
