ULTIMATE TECHNIQUES
DUCKING LEFT HOOK
Level 2—Both Standing, Striking Range
Schaub throws this great boxing punch as a lead and counter into the pocket.
RIGHT HEAVY STRAIGHT
Level 2—Both Standing, Striking Range
This strong right cross is a fairly quick power punch. Sway and counter to devastate your opponent.
DIRECT CATCH TO UPWARD REAR NAKED CHOKE
Level 3—Back Side Control, Top
Schaub is excellent with the rear naked chokes, and he goes direct for this one from back Side Control.
STRENGTHS
- Boxing
- Athleticism
- Knockout power
Brendan “The Hybrid” Schaub is one of the better boxers in the division, and despite his overall rating of 83, he rates an 80 with Standing Strikes and a fantastic 84 in Footwork.
Throw boxing combinations, sway, and then stick and move.
He was a Golden Gloves boxing champion and a college football player, so he’s not afraid of getting into a battle. Pick apart your opponent on his feet, but try to avoid the takedown at all costs.
After you put some hurt on your opponent, surprise him by pummeling to the Back Clinch and then throwing your opponent with a major transition that will land you in back Side Control.
Go direct to a rear naked choke for a Level 3 submission out of nowhere.
WEAKNESSES
- Working from his back
- Kicks
Schaub is a big puncher and, as one of the more agile heavyweights, is most comfortable dancing in and out and throwing combinations.
He’s not going to kick you—as most heavyweights in the division are not—but if you’re decent with your feet, whale away at him.
Shoot in for takedowns and take him down quickly to his back. From there you’ll be able to control him and he has very few offensive weapons to attack you with.
Ground-and-pound him and keep control of his position on his back.
Schaub is a poorly rated grappler from the bottom and will have trouble if he tries to submit you from there.
