ULTIMATE TECHNIQUES

RIGHT OVER STRONG HOOK

Level 2—Both Standing, Striking Range

Though “The Crippler” is a southpaw, he throws a very long and heavy right hook. This big, rangy technique punch helps make up for his lack of speed and mobility on the feet.

STRONG LEFT/RIGHT UPPERCUT

Level 2—Muay Thai Clinch Cage, Offense

Leben can work some effective dirty boxing in the Muay Thai Clinch. Pressure his opponents on the feet, then stuff them against the fence and land these compact, powerful punches.

SWEEP TRANSITION TO HALF GUARD, TOP

Level 1—Half Guard, Bottom

Leben is a skilled wrestler, even when fighting off his back. Use this handy technique transition to roll his opponent onto his back with a surprise sweep from the bottom of Half Guard.

STRENGTHS

  • Knockout power
  • Solid chin
  • Well rounded

Chris “The Crippler” Leben is a hard-nosed striker who prefers to turn each fight into a knockdown, drag-out brawl.

Use Leben’s powerful punches to rock his rivals in the stand-up battle, but don’t get caught throwing wildly in long exchanges, or his lack of striking speed may cause him to get caught.

“The Crippler” has a good chin, but strikes will eventually add up if he takes too many, so keep his hands high and hurl big lefts and rights as you press forward on the feet.

He is also strong in the clinch, able to assume dominant position and land some brutal strikes in the form of dirty boxing uppercuts thrown from the Muay Thai position.

Use the clinch against swift strikers to trap them within range of his heavy lefts and rights.

WEAKNESSES

  • Speed

“The Crippler” packs a powerful punch, but his poor footwork and lack of speed make him relatively easy prey for swift strikers during exchanges on the feet.

Outmaneuver Leben to set up your striking offense, and favor short combinations of quick strikes to sting him with superior timing from the outside.

He may try to clinch up with you in order to work some of his devastating dirty boxing, but he suffers from lack of control over the position—transition to improve your spot in the clinch and break free before suffering much damage.

Try to avoid the clinch and ground games altogether when fighting “The Crippler,” keeping the fight on the feet and picking him apart with superior speed and footwork.
