ULTIMATE TECHNIQUES

LEFT/RIGHT GUARDED HOOK

Level 3—Both Standing, Striking Range

Rampage throws these massive hooks with tremendous speed and range, and his defensive windup helps him slip strikes before landing these heavy blows. Combo between these hooks for fun times on the feet.

STRONG LEFT/RIGHT UPPERCUT

Level 3—Muay Thai Clinch, Offense

When elusive strikers are giving Rampage grief, clinch up to slow them down, then land some of his crushing uppercuts. Press the opponent into the fence to add even more weight to these heavy blows.

LEFT/RIGHT HOOK

Level 3—Open Guard, Top

Jackson has a dominant top game on the ground, and he’s able to secure the position with his driving takedowns or powerful clinch throws. Throw these heavy hooks while postured up in Open Guard, Half Guard, or Mount.

STRENGTHS

  • Knockout power
  • Strength
  • Slams

Quinton “Rampage” Jackson is a former UFC light heavyweight champion who burst onto the mainstream MMA scene with his shocking knockout of the seemingly invincible Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell back at UFC 71.

Recording such a huge win in so dominant a fashion made it clear that Rampage packs some serious power in his fists.

Use his excellent striking range and power to rock his rivals with heavy punches on the feet.

He has good takedown defense and clinch control, allowing him to “use his wrestling in reverse” to keep the fight standing, where his knockout power can decide a bout’s outcome in a blink.

If Jackson’s opponents are outmaneuvering him on the feet and beating him to the punch in the striking battle, use strong takedowns or his imposing clinch game to take the fight in a new direction.

Rampage can really work over his opponents with heavy blows in the Muay Thai Clinch, and his ground-and-pound is as brutal as it gets. Look to land his heavy hands wherever the fight happens to go.

WEAKNESSES

  • Kicks

Rampage packs explosive punching power, but his sluggish movements and amateur kicking ability present holes in his stand-up game—this allows elusive strikers and kickboxers to wear him down with long strikes and leg kicks from the outside.

Favor quick strikes that can interrupt his combos—though devastating, many of his power shots feature a significant windup that can be interrupted to take the sting out of his best punches.

A strong grappler, he isn’t good with submissions and struggles to improve his position when he’s stuck fighting on bottom.

Getting Jackson to the ground isn’t easy considering his excellent takedown defense, so look to dive under his long, looping punches with short takedowns that quickly drive Jackson to the mat.

Work the former champ over with conservative ground-and-pound, striving to maintain the top position while scoring points with the judges.
