ULTIMATE TECHNIQUES
RIGHT LONG STRAIGHT
Level 2 - Both Standing, Striking Range
Guillard throws this heavy punch with great speed and force, making it one of his go-to strikes on the feet. He won’t need to land many of these before rocking his rival.
FLYING LEFT/RIGHT KNEE
Level 2 - Muay Thai Clinch Cage, Offense
“The Young Assassin” can really work over his opponents in the Muay Thai Clinch, battering them with quick and powerful technique strikes that become even more lethal near the cage.
LEFT/RIGHT HOOK
Level 2 - Open Guard, Top
Guillard has excellent ground-and-pound; he can posture up and assail his adversary with fast and heavy hooks from various top positions, such as Open Guard, Half Guard, and Mount.
STRENGTHS
- Athleticism
- Knockout power
- Experience
Melvin “The Young Assassin” Guillard is an explosive striker with excellent speed and knockout power in both his hands and feet.
Though just 28 years old, “The Young Assassin” has already racked up more than 40 professional MMA fights, over a dozen of which have taken place under the big lights of the world-famous Octagon.
Use great speed and footwork to set up his offense and rattle off lightning-quick striking combinations on the feet.
If Guillard’s adversary is getting the better of him in the stand-up, shoot in for a takedown and work some of his dominant ground-and-pound.
He’s vulnerable to submissions, so avoid grappling with tap-out artists—keep the fight standing when faced with such an opponent, using Guillard’s long reach and crisp striking to batter his opponent in the stand-up.
He can also work the offensive Muay Thai Clinch to great effect if his opponent has a vulnerability to the clinch game.
WEAKNESSES
- Submission defense
-
Ground bottom grappling
Though a dominant athlete in all areas of the fight game, Guillard suffers from a lack of skill and technique in the realms of ground grappling and submission, creating an exploitable hole in his otherwise overwhelming offense.
He has great takedown defense, so challenge him on the feet to create openings for you to dive in and secure the short takedown.
If he’s being tactical and countering your takedowns on the feet, try working for throws from the clinch instead—this is a safer way to bring Guillard to the ground because his clinch control is good but not great.
Plant him on his back one way or another to limit his explosive offense and expose him to your submission game.
Guillard isn’t very good at improving his position while stuck on bottom, so try achieving a dominant posture so you can secure the victory with a fight-ending sub.
