“The California Kid,” Urijah Faber, is a champion-level fighter whose well-rounded game and advantages as a natural athlete allow him to dismantle his opponents no matter where they choose to take the fight.
Use Faber’s great footwork and fast hands to sting the opponent on the feet with quick striking combinations.
Faber is an elite-level grappler, so have no fear of being taken down by his rivals—press the action and score with his fluid boxing combos on the feet.
If the opponent has limited grappling ability, take him to the mat with a driving takedown and begin to work some of Faber’s blistering ground-and- pound.
Take advantage of his exceptional grappling ability to move into dominant position, then unleash brutal ground strikes from the top until the ref is forced to intervene.
Faber is also quite good at applying submissions, particularly armbars from the top, and guillotine chokes—look to lock these in whenever the opportunity arises.

Clinch strike defense
Faber is a dangerous fighter whose well- rounded skills must be respected at all times. He’s dangerous both on his feet and off his back, and he has good control in the clinch as well.
However, The California Kid has limited striking power in the clinch, and he also suffers the most damage from his opponent’s clinch strikes—this makes positions such as the Single Collar Tie and Muay Thai Clinch good places for you to fight Faber, as they limit his offense and agility, and help you land bigger blows.
Pressure him back toward the cage and catch him in the Muay Thai Clinch to deliver powerful clinch strikes that will quickly make an impact.
Faber’s clinch grappling and takedowns are both very good, so be careful with your offense and focus on maintaining position by denying his attempts to pummel out and improve his position in the clinch.
