ULTIMATE TECHNIQUES
RIGHT/LEFT HEAD KICK
Level 2—Both Standing, Striking Position
Though he’s best known for his heavy hands, “Lights Out” can unleash some devastating kicks to his opponent’s head. Land head kicks to rock his opponent from range.
BLOCKING RIGHT FRONT KICK
Level 2—Both Standing, Striking Position
Lytle has been known to overexert himself during striking exchanges. This defensive body kick helps him keep his opponent at bay while he catches his breath and recovers.
DIRECT CATCH TO KNEEBAR
Level 3—Open Guard, Top
“Lights Out” may pack some power in his strikes, but he’s also an excellent submission fighter. His kneebars from Open Guard are among his best subs.
STRENGTHS
- Aggressive style
Chris “Lights Out” Lytle is a scrappy brawler and submission artist who has recorded many memorable victories inside the Octagon.
His aggressive style has led him toward achieving a remarkable 10 “of the night” awards, including four Fight of the Night awards, one Knockout of the Night, and three Submission of the Night honors.
Use his good footwork to set up his powerful striking combinations when exchanging in the stand-up battle.
Lytle isn’t strong in the clinch, so avoid this position and try to time a takedown if you feel like working his excellent submission game.
Bringing the opponent to the ground lets him lock in his powerful kneebars, which he can perform in the easy-to-achieve Open Guard position.
Attack his rivals with body blows and kicks during the striking battle to soften them up for his lethal kneebars from Open Guard.
WEAKNESSES
- Strength
- Clinch grappling
- Takedown defense
Lytle is a dangerous striker and grappler, but elite-level opponents can overwhelm him with superior technique and athleticism in most areas of the fight game.
His stand-up and submission games are his two most powerful weapons, so be elusive on the feet to present a difficult target for his predictable strikes, and remain ready to stuff his takedowns at any time.
Interrupt his sluggish striking combinations with long quick strikes from the outside, and punish “Lights Out” each time you catch him in a sprawl.
He has poor control in the clinch, so use this position to great advantage against him by working him over with elbows, knees, or dirty boxing from the Muay Thai position.
He’s vulnerable to being taken down, but his submission grappling is dangerous enough to make rolling with him risky. Keep the fight on the feet if you’re having success there, or move in and work him over in the clinch instead.
