ULTIMATE TECHNIQUES

STRONG RIGHT HOOK

This is a devastating hook if you can manage to tie up your opponent.

LEFT HOOK

Both Standing, Striking Range

Both Standing, Striking Range

BACK FLIP SINGLE LEG TAKEDOWN

Level 2—Single Collar Tie, Over/Under Hook

This Level 2 takedown can be done from neutral clinches or offensive holds. Use it as a surprise switch to mix it up. If you’re successful you end up in Side Control.

STRENGTHS

  • Size
  • Strength
  • Knockout power

Though Bob Sapp’s best attribute might be “scariness,” he is a big, strong guy with one-punch knockout power.

His strength lies in big brawling, so don’t get too technical. Use boxing combinations and unload heavy punches when you set them up with quick strikes.

A nicely timed counter with a strong strike can instantly rock your opponent and put him to the mat.

Rocked opponents on the ground open up Level 3 hammer fists, punches, and elbow for the big man, so dive onto rocked opponents with a punch and finish the fight with technique strikes from the top.

If you’re facing a better striker on the feet, clinch, take him down, and rock him with ground-and-pound.

WEAKNESSES

  • Chin
  • Kicks
  • Grappling

Sapp’s chin has been called into question by some pretty quick knockouts. Stick and move on the feet to take advantage of his poor standing strike defense.

He is not going to hurt you badly with kicks, and he pretty much plods around the ring looking for the big knockout punch.

Ideally, take him to the mat to nullify his power. Sapp is not a grappler and can be easily submitted without worry that he’ll try to submit you.

Transition to a dominant position and work technical grappling to submission. If your fighter is a striker, ground-and-pound from the top.
