ULTIMATE TECHNIQUES

WEAVING OVERHAND RIGHT

Level 1—Both Standing, Striking Range

This big punch has a built-in weave. Use quick jabs and circle left to set it up.

DIRECT CATCH TO STANDING REAR NAKED CHOKE

Level 2—Back Clinch, Offense

After a few strikes, clinch the body and use a major transition to the back for this standing sub.

DIRECT CATCH TO ARMBAR FROM THE TOP

Level 2—Mount, Top

This is a nice end to some ground-and-pound from the mount.

STRENGTHS

  • Aggressive style
  • Solid chin

When Chan-Sung Jung, the “Korean Zombie,” came to the big-time Octagon he suffered two losses, but he visited some training camps and has rallied for two wins in a row, including a quick knockout in the first seven seconds. Jung took Submission of the Night honors by locking in the first successful twister ever used in the Octagon.

He is still new to the UFC fight game, but he’s super quick and is known for taking punishment and continuing his charge in the ring. He’s solid all the way around, but the progression of your fight should go like this: standing strikes rock your opponent (80 Standing Strikes), jump on for the ground-and-pound (80 Ground Striking), and then get the submission (77 Submission).

From standing, Jung has a nice standing rear naked choke if you can pummel to the Back Clinch, otherwise he has a good armbar from the top in the Mount after your ground-and-pound.

WEAKNESSES

  • Technical grappling
  • Wrestling
  • Clinch game

Jung’s weaknesses lie mostly in the clinch and in wrestling his opponent to the ground. Despite his very cool nickname, he can be knocked out, and has suffered a loss in the ring to a left head kick from George Roop. But, if you want to nullify Jung’s strength on his feet, use the clinch and pound him with knees and cut him with elbows. Then, use the cage and dirty boxing to set up the takedown.

Push the action to test his cardio and wrestle him to the mat for some ground-and-pound and you can finish the fight there. If you are a BJJ specialist, use your technical grappling to flow between transitions and work for a submission of your own.
