ULTIMATE TECHNIQUES
LUNGING RIGHT HOOK
Level 2—Both Standing, Striking Range
From a southpaw, this lead hook comes over the top of the orthodox fighter’s left-hand defense. The lunging step nicely covers ground to the inside from kicking range.
ONE FEINT HEAD KICK
Level 1—Both Standing, Striking Range
This lead leg kick has a built-in feint with the left leg and is a nice start to an attack. Recover and follow with a quick left cross and a strong right hook.
RIGHT JUMPING KNEE
Level 2—Both Standing, Striking Range
Step in and throw this super-quick flying knee to the jaw to rock your opponent.
STRENGTHS
- Wrestling
- Knockout power
- Athleticism
Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto is a strong, agile bantamweight stand-up fighter.
He’s decent on the ground, but his real strength lies in explosive kickboxing (flying knees, dynamic kicks, lunging punches).
He is a decent wrestler, too, but with the depth of wrestlers and grapplers in the bantamweight division, it’s best to keep the fight standing to give “Kid” the advantage.
Stay in kicking range to utilize the Muay Thai kicks to your benefit, then shuffle in for some solid punch combinations.
Mix in a flying knee here and there to rattle your opponent, but resist the urge to get too fancy and put yourself in harm’s way.
Stay fundamental and manage the distance and in/out of your opponent.
WEAKNESSES
- Cardio
For such a dynamic, active fighter, Yamamoto’s Cardio attribute rates as a paltry 74.
In such a stacked division of little guys, he can be outworked for sure. He’s fairly well rounded, but is not a grappler by any means.
Take him down and transition to a dominant position for some ground-and- pound.
He’s got the second-worst offensive Submission rating in the weight class, but he has good submission defense.
If you’re looking to finish the fight quickly, you should be able to work him over on the mat.
Get on top, rock him, and lock in a submission, or, if you’re a BJJ guy, suck him into a triangle from your back when it goes to the ground.
