ULTIMATE TECHNIQUES
LEFT FRONT UPPER KICK
LEVEL 2 - Both Standing, Striking Range
This is a powerful counter for overly aggressive opponents. Snap a front leg kick in the face as they try to run in.
SWEEP TRANSITION TO MOUNT, TOP
Rubber Guard, Bottom
Struve is one of the few fighters to utilize the Rubber Guard, and this is a great sweep to the Mount. From Open Guard, Rubber Guard and then a technique minor transition to initiate this sweet sweep.
DIRECT CATCH TO TRIANGLE CHOKE
Level 2 - Rubber Guard, Bottom
This classic move will set up a submission switch opportunity. It can be done from Open Guard if you catch a strike, or in direct fashion if you manage to transition to Rubber Guard first.

Height
Stefan “Skyscraper” Struve has a pretty obvious advantage, being nearly seven feet tall.
He is excellent off his back and locks in submissions for most of his victories, but he is a decent kicker from standing as well.
Keep your distance and pick apart opponents with his length, and look for submissions when it goes to the ground.
If you find yourself on the bottom, he’s very good at getting back to a defensive guard position and then attacking with submissions from his back, so stay busy and transition to favorable positions with his highly rated ground grappling from the bottom.
Use Rubber Guard and lock in the triangle for some bragging rights.
WEAKNESSES
- Ground Striking
- Slow
- Wrestling
Struve is a long but fairly slow heavyweight who falls near the bottom end of Strength ratings for heavyweights. He can be easily countered by quicker boxers.
Box with him in the pocket—most of his losses are from knockouts.
He’s mediocre in the clinch and he’s going to have a difficult time taking anybody down to the mat. Work inside to set up some slips and counter punches.
If you get on the ground with him on his back, it may be best to stand up (especially on the harder difficulty levels), because he will try to submit you. Fight him off and make the ref stand him up.
