Location / Chicago // All Districts

Suggested Action: Watch for criminal behavior

Suggested Action: Tail the potential criminal

Suggested Action: Intervene

Suggested Action: Stop the criminal

Investigation

Foot Chase

Vehicle Chase

Melee Force Likely

Periodically, your smartphone registers the possibility of a crime occurring. This can occur in one of two ways:

You are profiling citizens of Chicago and have targeted an individual with a blue diamond who is having a conversation (either vocally or via text) that may lead to a criminal activity. The ctOS Crime Detection System alerts your phone.

The ctOS Crime Detection System alerts your phone automatically.

This possible future infraction appears as a potential crime location, and the waypoint appears on your minimap.

SOMEWHERE, THERE IS A CRIME HAPPENING

The Crime Detection System warning stays on your screen for a few seconds. During this time, you have the following options:

Ignore it. The crime appears on your main map as a “blue zone” before timing out and disappearing.

Select a waypoint and your GPS plots a route to it. Get there with reasonable haste, or the crime may already have occurred.

Select the map, locate the “blue zone,” and get there without the aid of a GPS.

COME QUIETLY OR THERE WILL BE...TROUBLE

Once you have a Crime Detection warning and if you wish to pursue it, locate the blue zone on your map—this is an area where the suspicious activity will take place. Arrive cautiously, without any weaponry visible. Then bring out your smartphone and begin to profile all citizens within the area. A “suggestion” also prompts you into this course of action:

Suggested Action: Watch for criminal behavior

Suggested Action: Tail the potential criminal

You are looking for two types of people:

A shifty-looking criminal suspect with a “Crime Probability” percentage on his information bar.

A nervous-looking citizen with a “Potential Victim” percentage on his or her information bar.

Stay at range; if the suspect is alerted to your presence (in the usual manner) and you don’t back off, he thinks twice of committing a crime, which technically stops the event from happening—but without you intervening and gaining Reputation or experience points! With this in mind, remember you can:

Walk the area, profiling citizens with your smartphone.

Drive the area (if possible), profiling citizens with your smartphone.

Hack any security cameras, profiling citizens remotely. It’s usually a good idea to be somewhat close to the victim if you’re watching remotely, as it takes longer to intervene.

Stay extremely close to the victim. If the likely location of a crime happening is an alley, simply hide behind scenery or around a corner as close to the infraction as possible, so you can remove the threat quickly, without gunfire and minimal chasing.

Suggested Action: Intervene

Suggested Action: Stop the criminal

Now you wait for the criminal and victim to meet and for the percentage rating of a possible crime to increase. As soon as the following occurs, you should intervene:

The percentage rating on the information bar of either person shifts to 51% or higher.

The percentage rating on the information bar turns red.

The alert icon above the criminal turns to a green exclamation mark.

At this point, you have a few options when intervening:

Rush the criminal and victim, which stops the crime in progress and causes the criminal to flee.

Rush the criminal and victim, shooting the criminal in the head (he dies if you’re accurate).

Rush the criminal and victim, shooting the criminal and causing him to flee.

Rush the criminal and victim, shooting both parties, which ends the criminal activity without benefits.

Leave the crime to occur, which still allows you to chase the subject, usually after the victim is dead, considerably lessening any benefits you receive.

Assuming the criminal isn’t dead yet and has started to sprint away, you can:

Chase the criminal, catching him up so that you can leap onto him with a melee strike and neutralize him.

Chase the criminal, shooting him in the head or repeatedly in the body until he falls over dead.

Chase the criminal, utilizing (via hacking or shooting) any infrastructure, such as junction boxes or transformers that can explode, wounding or killing the target.

Chase the criminal until he locates a vehicle and speeds off in it. In order not to fail this mission, you need to acquire your own vehicle and give chase. Stop the chase using one of the many tried-and-true tactics detailed in this guide.

Chase the criminal until he calls up reinforcements, usually between two and six vehicles, each with two or three occupants inside (Gunmen and Veterans). Keep an eye on the target as a priority, but also turn your attention to any reinforcements preventing you from completing this contract. Plans for dealing with reinforcements can be found elsewhere in the guide.

Chase the criminal in a vehicle (usually a car or bike) and run him over, neutralizing him.

Once you neutralize the criminal, this activity is over, and you receive bonuses to your experience and Reputation. The best bonuses you receive is when the following happens:

The victim is unharmed (you don’t get this bonus if they were beaten or killed).

The criminal was neutralized (you don’t get as big of a bonus if the criminal was killed).
