ctOS MOBILE // OVERVIEW
ctOS Mobile is an entertaining 1-vs-1 game of cat and mouse where one player (utilizing the ctOS Mobile App on a list of approved smartphone and tablet devices) takes control of the Chicago police, accesses a member of the Watch_Dogs community on PC or console, and challenges them to reach a series of checkpoints within a time limit. This is a great way for the WD player to accrue Notoriety, XP, and cash, and the App player to gather XP and unlock several unique App-only achievements.
There are two game types the App Player can challenge the WD Player to: Races and Free Rides.
OVERVIEW /// Race and Free Ride Challenges
There are 13 Race and 13 Free Ride courses to choose from, making a total of 26 courses.
Both Challenge Types: The App Player controls the police and any ctOS-powered devices (infrastructure hacks) on the road. They use the hacks and summoned police vehicles to stop the WD Player from reaching the checkpoints. The App Player wins if they stop the WD Player from reaching the last checkpoint within the time limit. The App Player loses if the WD Player reaches the last checkpoint. There is no difference to the overview of the App Player’s maps during a Free Ride or a Race.
Free Ride (WD Player): The GPS marker is off. The WD Player must rely on knowledge of the area to reach each checkpoint (and quick checks of the map), making these challenges more difficult. Also check the map for Time Bonuses, which help add seconds to this fraught and frantic evasion!
Race (WD Player): The GPS marker is on; a yellow arrow route is visible to the WD Player, leading to the next checkpoint. As usual, there are off-road and alley shortcuts, but these challenges are slightly easier.
CTOS MOBILE APP // ONSCREEN INFORMATION
/// Challenge Display Screen
Learn how everything is displayed in the following screen, showing a challenge in progress. Most numbers refer to the menu bar and the action on the map. This shows a fully unlocked screen, after expenditure of Skill Points.
Spotlight: This is what the spotlight looks like; in the game, your sniper shoots down at the target and the car is lit up (which can hinder your foe’s driving, especially in the dark).
Helicopter Unit: This is your main unit, and the focus of your movements in all challenges. The menu shows the Helicopter skills you’ve unlocked (and can use during a challenge if you have the points).
Available Unit: There are five police unit tiles here; this is the maximum number of ground units you can place at once, assuming you have enough points. You can place as many or as few units as you like, from the following:
Patrol Car (1 Point): A basic police car that chases and attempts to cut off the target.
Interceptor (3 Points): A faster and more aggressive police car.
SUV (6 Points): A tough and speedy SUV that’s even more aggressive.
SWAT SUV (9 Points): Extremely aggressive and fast, with Enforcers to tackle the foe on foot.
Available Unit (Placement): You can’t place a unit within a certain radius of the target, so once you’ve bought a unit, drag and drop it where you think the target is headed, or use it to coax them in a certain direction.
Checkpoints: The number passed and total number to reach are shown here, as well as the one the target is heading toward and any others on the section of the map.
Timer: This shows how much time there is left; when it reaches 00:00, the challenge is over. The target receives a time extension when the following occurs:
A checkpoint is passed.
A time bonus is passed. These are sometimes off the main path, so watch for your foe veering off to reach them.
Bonus Cash: These are optional pickups for the target and are worth $200 per pickup. If the target gets greedy, trap them with units and infrastructure hacks, and watch for them veering off paths to reach these icons.
WD Player: This appears as a red vehicle or a dot with a directional arrow when the target is on foot.
Infrastructure Hack: You have access to the ctOS infrastructure and can hack traffic lights, blockers, bollards, spikes, and steam pipes. Use these tactically to force a foe down a side street where your units are or to slow them down or cripple the target’s vehicle.
Electronic Boards: Hack into any of these signs and write a message to distract and annoy your target!
