1.8 STYLING AND PROFILING

Go to Sleep

Investigation

Difficulty:

Once the mission concludes and you’ve spent your Skill Point on the Gates & Garages Skill (this opens and closes gates and garage doors—extremely handy when finding shortcuts or wanting to block pursuers), check your hideout.

Rest on your bed for as many hours as you wish.

Exit your motel room

Profile people for potential crimes near your hideout

Data Hack

Investigation

Difficulty:

You wake from a terrible nightmare. Leave the hideout when you’re ready, and you’re treated to some distractions from the main course of Aiden’s missions here in Parker Square. You can control the remote cameras as they spy on the citizens. When your objective updates, begin to stroll along the Owl Motel balcony or drop down to the parking lot (you won’t kill yourself). Be sure you’ve brought your smartphone, and profile everyone about you.

As you continue your slow and methodical spying of your immediate surroundings, there are various actions you should undertake:

Personal Details:Every citizen you target has brief (and usually very personal) details, such as their hobbies, vices, ages, occupations, and incomes.

Phone hacking (white):Most citizens use phones, and those with a white target diamond may be texting or calling. You can hack in to listen to these conversations.

Phone hacking (blue):Certain citizens come up with a blue target reticle. These are of significant interest, as they grant you certain helpful items. These are listed by their portrait and include:

Bank Account (and Rich Bank Account): for obtaining cash from an ATM machine. You can hack multiple citizens before reaching an ATM machine.

Car on Demand: the keys to a specific vehicle, which now becomes available via your Cars on Demand App.

Item of Interest: A hidden package, usually containing cash, can be stolen before the police find it.

Online Target: a human player may also be spotted, allowing you to begin an online mission, but not until you complete a couple more Main Missions.

Potential Crime: although not a criminal, this citizen may be listening to or conversing with a criminal who is about to commit a crime.

Side Mission: Certain citizens have knowledge of Fixer or Gang activities.

Songsneak: a tune you can add to your music collection.

System Key: a crafting component for one-time hacks.

Continue to profile—from your phone and via the security cameras around the Owl Motel—until you come across a citizen with a blue diamond target. Target them. Your phone scans for a potential crime location, and the waypoint appears on your minimap.

1.9 SOMEWHERE, THERE IS A CRIME HAPPENING

Investigate the potential crime area

Investigation

Foot Chase

Vehicle Chase

Melee Force Likely

Difficulty:

Once ctOS detects a crime, reach the blue triangle area. In this case, the crime is about to occur a couple of blocks away, so follow the minimap for the correct direction. When you reach the blue circular area, open your Profiler and begin to scan for the potential victim or criminal.

Suggested Action: Watch for criminal behavior

Suggested Action: Intervene

Stay behind cover, and (optionally) use the security cameras to pinpoint the victim or criminal. Cameras allow you to watch the action unfold from farther away, at the expense of intervening more swiftly. Then follow the conversation between victim and criminal, waiting for an alert from ctOS before intervening. As soon as the following occurs, you should intervene:

The percentage rating on the information bar of either person shifts to over 96 percent or higher.

The percentage rating on the information bar turns red.

The alert icon above the criminal turns to a yellowish exclamation point, but not before the alert turns red.

Suggested Action: Stop the Criminal

Be quick, or the crime is committed and you fail this side mission. Now race toward the fleeing suspect. At this point, you have a few options when intervening:

Rush the criminal and victim, which stops the crime in progress and causes the criminal to flee.

Rush the criminal and victim, shooting the criminal in the head (he dies if you’re accurate).

Rush the criminal and victim, shooting the criminal and causing him to flee.

Rush the criminal and victim, shooting both parties, which ends the criminal activity without benefits.

Leave the crime to occur, which still allows you to chase the subject, usually after the victim is dead, considerably lessening any benefits you receive.

Assuming the criminal isn’t dead yet and has started to sprint away, you can:

Chase the criminal, catching him up so that you can leap onto him with a melee strike and neutralize him.

Chase the criminal, shooting him in the head or in the body repeatedly until he falls over dead.

Chase the criminal, utilizing (via hacking or shooting) any interactive scenery, such as junction boxes or transformers that can explode, wounding or killing the target.

Chase the criminal in a vehicle (usually a car or bike) and run him over, neutralizing him.

Once you neutralize the criminal, this activity is over, and you receive bonuses to your experience and reputation. You receive the best bonuses (listed below) when the following happens:

The victim is unharmed (you don’t get this bonus if you beat or killed them).

The criminal was neutralized (you don’t get as big of a bonus if you kill the criminal).
