_INTERLUDE: PAWNSHOP MISSION

OBJECTIVES

Buy some crafting components

1.5 PAPA B’S PAWNSHOP PROJECTILES

Location / Parker Square // Papa B’s Pawnshop

Investigation

Difficulty:

Find a vehicle, and drive to the pawnshop in Parker Square. As you reach Papa B’s, the objective updates. Obviously it’s worth having some cash with you ($1,550 if you want to buy the maximum of everything once) to make the most of the shopping you’re about to do. Step into the store, and head toward the counter to shop. You’re about to purchase components, which you will use to craft handy tools.

Once you’re at the Item screen, the number of items you can purchase depends on what you’re currently carrying (which you can see when you bring up the Weapon Wheel). Remember you can also pick up these items (without paying for them) randomly when you search locations throughout missions. The following items are on offer:

PriceMaximum CarriedCraftable Items
Electronic Parts

$50 each

10
Chemical Component

$100 each

3
Unstable Chemical Component

$250 each

3

Note

From left to right, the crafting components on your Weapon Wheel are meds (from pharmacies), system keys (hacked from phones lying around or carried by citizens), electronic parts, chemical components, and unstable chemical components (all from pawnshops).

Purchase what you like, and leave to complete this mission. Remember that:

You don’t need to purchase more than you really need. A simple electronics parts purchase is fine and completes the mission.

Check your Skill Tree for the Crafted Items skills you’ve purchased; you can’t create items until these skills are unlocked too.

It is recommended to have the ability to craft at least lures, frag grenades, and IEDs by this point in the main mission.

Don’t forget that Focus-related crafting occurs after purchases from pharmacies (meds).

At this point, you should already be familiar with crafting and should have purchased at least one or two of the skills in the “Crafted Items” section of the Skill Tree. The pawnshop’s merchandise allows the following items to be crafted:

Item (and Skill Required)Components Required (Pawnshop)Other Components Required
Lure* Electronic Parts None
Jam Coms Electronic Parts System Key
Blackout Electronic Parts System Key (2)
ctOS Scan Electronic Parts System Key
Frag Grenade* Chemical Component None
IED* Electronic Parts, Unstable Chemical Component None
Proximity IED* Electronic Parts, Unstable Chemical Component None

* These items can be crafted without locating components that the pawnshop doesn’t sell.

Caution

Watch out: when you’re close to the shopkeeper, don’t bring up the Weapon Wheel too quickly and accidentally select a weapon, as you may cause him to think you’re robbing the place!

Tip

Professional Fixers like to visit pawnshops before each mission, “fill up” on components, craft the items they need, then fill up again with more components at the pawnshop. This lets them use up items during missions, then find a place to hide and craft more, so they can carry the maximum amount of projectiles. This trick is called crafting “on the fly”.

Tip

“On the fly” crafters should also be interested in purchasing the Combat // Demolitionist and Expert Demolitionist skills, as they increase the number of carried explosives (grenades and IEDs). At the theoretical maximum, you can carry 24 projectiles:

  • Six frag grenades (crafted)
  • Six IEDs (crafted)
  • Six proximity IEDs (crafted)
  • Components allowing three frag grenades and either three IEDs or three proximity IEDs (Weapon Wheel)

This doesn’t help in your crafting, but you can also rob the business after purchasing all the items you need. This reduces your Reputation, and you’re stealing cash, not components. Also be aware that as you progress, news reports may appear on the screen behind the counter, leading to a shopkeeper recognizing you and raising the alarm. So your Reputation has some consequences!
