_GHOSTS OF THE PAST

OBJECTIVES

Leave town. Avoid the police

LOCATIONS // MAP

Locations / Parker Square and Pawnee // Yolanda’s House to Overlook

6.1 NICK, WE’RE OUTTA TIME. WE NEED TO GO

Location / Parker Square // Yolanda’s House

Locate Yolanda’s house in southeast Parker Square, and approach the front door. Nicky and Jackson hurry out and are bundled into a car. With the police closing in on your location, you need to escape Chicago as quickly (but as cunningly) as possible.

Leave town. Avoid the police

6.2 RUN TO THE HILLS

Location / Parker Square // Yolanda’s House

Location / Pawnee // Crazy Moose Inn (Overlook)

Driving Infiltration

Escape

Difficulty:

Overview

Completion Point: Out of police search area, then a careful drive to an overlook, on the outskirts of Pawnee.

Dangers: Most of the Chicago PD; at least three squad cars at all times, roadblocks active to your movements, and a helicopter.

Exit Points

As you flee south Parker Square, the police show of force is immense. There are few methods to escape: As the police react to your maneuvers and are never in the same place twice, it may become more difficult to escape in one direction compared to another. But the following provides a reasonable chance of success:

West, Over the Freeway

Escape Probability:

If you decide to weave through the west side of Parker Square Begin, watch for cops ahead and left (northwest) of you. The most difficult part of the route is escaping Yolanda’s neighborhood, but use alleys and venture over the freeway (not onto it). Then place a GPS marker near May Stadium, and slowly drive north, using side streets and alley. Continue to avoid the cops.

Assuming you’re close to May Stadium, place a second marker north again, close to either St. Joseph Cemetery or the Farris Halstead Library. Head into the hedge-lined neighborhoods, keeping your eyes peeled for police. Cross the park over the grass without gunning it and skidding out of control. Your final marker should be near the botanical gardens, which is out of the police range and close to your objective.

North, Over the Marina

Escape Probability:

Though dangerous, this is the optimal path to take if you wish to quickly and effectively complete this mission. Instantly accelerate from Yolanda’s house, cutting across the intersection and remaining in a northward trajectory along the main road within this section of Parker Square. Launch yourself at the marina docks in a spectacular bid for freedom!

Slow down so you aren’t rocked into the water or skidding out of control. Head over the grass north of the marina buildings, through the mesh fence and under the freeway. Take the dirt path alongside the freeway (to the west), with the river on your right (east). While on this path, slow down so you don’t skid out of control and end up in the river (it can happen!). Continue following this path until you’re out of the police presence. Then join the freeway or main road once the police threat has lessened.

North, Up the Railroad Tracks

Escape Probability:

If the police are blocking your way to the west, accelerate from Yolanda’s house, cutting left across the intersection, and head north. Immediately take the very first alleyway to the left (west), by the yellow “Garage Auto Parts” sign. Increase your speed, hit the ramp and sail over the freeway, hopefully landing on the railroad tracks at Paulson station.

Quickly attempt a rough three-point turn and then accelerate northward; stay on the right side of the tracks so you don’t hit any oncoming trains, but don’t worry about the police barricades—you can pass safely by if you’re traveling at speed, and the railroad soon allows you to exit (after heading out of the police search area) near the road to Pawnee.

South, Over the River

Escape Probability:

Watch for the helicopter and squad cars behind you, and simply reverse, J-turn, and head through the fence and down toward the footpath and the river. You may need to hide in the alley near Yolanda’s house first. When you reach the path that heads roughly west under the freeway, follow it, attempting to avoid (or crush!) as many pedestrians as you can.

Cross under the L-train tracks, move over the small island, under a second freeway, and then leave the path, driving up the grass hill and onto the railroad tracks. Skid left (south) toward the massive swing bridge. Access the bridge so it connects, then race across and follow the rail lines east along the perimeter of the Wards until you’re out of the police threat. This escape is slightly easier than the one to the north, but you have a very long trek to your objective afterward, and you still want to keep off the main freeways, as the police have a presence. Retracing your steps and heading up toward May Stadium is a good option.

Progression Plans

The routes detailed previously are your methods of completing this mission. However, only defensive driving and the following tactics guarantee a high chance at escaping:

Driving // Defensive: Pawnee or Busted

Difficulty:

Stay in Your Car: With Nicky and Jackson to worry about, this is the only vehicle you can use, so keep it in working order; keep ramming and crashing to a minimum. Drive slowly when coming up to corners and undulations off-road, as this vehicle tends to skid out more easily than others.

Patience: The police are out in force and set up roadblocks based on where you’re most likely to drive to. If you weave through streets, check your minimap constantly; if you have it turned off, peer ahead for flashing lights and change your route accordingly. The police have no set path; the patrol cars, helicopter, and roadblocks are dependent on how they perceive you. So don’t rely on memorizing routes.

Alleyway Antics: Though you can get caught or stranded in one area until you make a mistake, remain half a block or more away from any police and the helicopter. Use alleyways to sneak around patrolling vehicles. Careful reversing and J-turns are as important as cornering properly.

When to Run and Gun It: Remember, there are occasions when fleeing is necessary; if a foe isn’t too close, it is wise to run and get away before he is fully alerted and the mission fails. You can’t drive past a cop on the same street, though; fast maneuvers are only available when the cops aren’t on your tail or passing you by.

Side Streets Only: The cops have the main thoroughfares blocked. This means you can’t head onto freeway on-ramps, or take the tunnel under the river, or enter intersections of main streets. Driving off-road or carefully maneuvering down quieter side streets is the way to slip by unnoticed.

6.3 RUN FOR YOUR LIFE

Location / Pawnee // Crazy Moose Inn (Overlook)

Take the main road to Pawnee, and you eventually arrive at the overlook close to Crazy Moose Inn. It’s over for Nicky and Jacks, but not for you. After an emotional farewell, Nicky takes the car and Jacks, and you say your farewells. You’re staying here. As T-Bone calls in with news, the mission concludes.
