The original game pits up to five players against each other and allows you to select a mix of human opponents and four distinct AI personalities. Your goal is to score the most points by connecting cities by rail. Placing trains earns points, as does connecting the cities listed on destination tickets in your possession. Depending on which expansion you’re playing, you may earn bonus points for creating the longest route or completing the most destination tickets.
Expansions to the game change a few rules, which we’ve covered in these pages. Expansions with smaller maps reduce the maximum number of possible players to three or four, instead of five.
