The mechanics of battle are simple. You create a battle deck of eight cards before you enter an arena. Once the battle begins, you place cards with the goal of either destroying your opponent’s towers or protecting your own towers. To win a battle, destroy the opponent’s King Tower or destroy more Princess Towers than your opponent. Elixir generation increases for the last minute of a fight. Ties go into overtime, but draws are possible.
There are restrictions you must deal with during battle. Only four of your eight cards are available for play at a time. Cards that become troops and buildings can be placed anywhere that isn’t covered in red (spells and attacks have no restriction on placement). Until you destroy a Princess Tower, that means anywhere on your side of the bridges. You also need enough elixir to spawn the unit. If the card is displayed in full color, then it’s ready to fight.
The replacement card for the one you place appears to the left of your card selection. There’s a short delay before a fresh “Next” card can go into your hand. If you place two cards quickly, your hand may be down an extra card briefly. You must cycle through your deck before a card reappears in your hand. A played card will reappear in the Next slot after you play three cards from your hand.
Shop
Touch the chest icon on the bottom of your screen to access the shop. The shop offers daily deals, as well as a selection of royal chests, gems, and gold. Nothing is a required purchase, but if you have an abundance of gold or gems, this is where you spend them.
Cards
The Cards screen is where you set up your battle decks, read card info, and upgrade your cards. At first, you can build three distinct battle decks on this screen, but remember to select the one you want to take into battle before you look for a fight. As your king level rises, you open additional battle deck slots.
Earning and Upgrading Cards
To create better battle decks, you must build up your stockpile of cards, then use those cards to advance to the next arena level and unlock better cards. Chests are the primary source of cards. Obtaining additional copies of a card you already possess allows you to upgrade it. Upgrading a card also costs gold. If your gold supply is low, upgrade the cards that you use in battle first.
To learn about a unit’s preferred targets or special abilities, read its Info page and try it out in training matches. You must have a solid understanding of how your troops will act in battle if you want to reach the next arena level.

Beyond starting battles and 2v2 matches, the Battle screen also lists quests for you to complete and earn extra rewards. Check daily for your gifts and to see how close you are to completing achievements.
