Classic Fruit Ninja Mode
The objective of Classic Fruit Ninja mode is to slice as many fruits you can to increase your score before you lose. You lose by missing too many fruits.
You slice by touching and holding the screen and then sliding toward fruit that is tossed onto the screen. Hitting multiple fruits with one slice rewards extra points, depending on how many were hit. You lose when you get three strikes. You get a strike when a piece of fruit falls off the screen. You can take one strike away for every 100 fruits sliced. If you hit a bomb (one occasionally comes up) you instantly lose.
Zen Mode
Zen mode adds a time limit to the game, and you must try to beat your high score before time runs out. There are no bombs and no strikes in this mode. Zen mode is unlocked at level 2.
Arcade Mode
Arcade mode is unlocked at level 4. In Arcade mode, you only have one minute to beat your high score. Special bananas are also tossed into the dojo. They have unique bonuses, such as tossing more fruit on the screen, doubling your earned points for a limited time, slowing down the speed of all fruit for a limited time, or stopping the countdown. Slicing a bomb in this mode deducts 10 points from your score instead of ending the game. However, hitting the bomb clears the screen. There are no strikes for missing fruits.
Mini Games
Mini games are unlocked at level 6. It costs you starfruit to play mini games. Completing these mini games gives you golden apples, which are used to compete in Event mode.
Challenges
Challenges are unlocked at level 8. Spend golden apples to play these challenges. Challenges have you pitted against AI opponents, and you must beat their score. Only one challenge can be played daily.
Event Mode
Event mode is unlocked at level 9. In Event mode, you can play for tokens to spend at the store. To enter the matches, you must spend golden apples. Fruit ninjas in each arena grant you special powers to help you fill a meter to gain more tokens.
Buying starfruit and golden apples with real money obviously speeds up the process over earning them through normal gameplay but is completely optional; you do not need to purchase these items to get through the game or enjoy it more.
