The Environment and Controls
While playing Temple Run 2, you don’t just run in a straight line. You have to watch out for broken ledges, walls, river logs, etc. To dodge objects on the left or right of your path, tilt your device left or right. To dodge objects blocking the entire path, swipe either up or down to move out of the way. Swiping up makes you jump and swiping down makes you slide. Be careful when tilting your device to grab coins—the game often adds an obstacle at the end of a coin line.
Coins and Gems
Coins are used to buy characters and ability upgrades. Gems are used for buying clothing items for characters, maps, and power-up boosts.
Abilities
Abilities are stats, including Coin Value, Shield Duration, Coin Magnet, Boost Distance, Pickup Spawn, Power Meter, Save Me, Head Start, Score Multiplier, Wheel Bonus, and Bolt Distance (Bolt Distance requires the purchase of Usain Bolt). One particularly important upgrade is Coin Value—having a greater value for each coin makes getting other upgrades easier. Another great upgrade is Power Meter, which fills your meter a certain percentage faster.
• If you try to make a turn too early, you will hit a wall and the monkey monster will catch up to you, which also restarts your power-up bar (filled by collecting coins). Time your turns skillfully.
• You can only get away with one mistake while the monster is in your view; if you hit a wall or object a second time, you will lose.
• The small edges on the path can either be run around or jumped over; if you are near an edge while collecting coins, it’s easier to jump over, but if no coins are around, it’s your preference whether you jump over it or just go around the edge.
• While in river sections of maps, watch out for objects on your left and right. Keep in mind that tree logs block the river, so you have to dive under to avoid them. To get around a log, swipe down below it. You’ll instantly lose if you hit it.
