Make your own farm behind your home. Instead of finding a river, pond, or ocean to plant around, make the farm near your house. Keep a Fence around it so mobs don’t stomp around it. To prevent unwanted animals from jumping in, build about three blocks away from any higher blocks.
A little fashion tip for farmland and to make sure you have fewer accidents in un-plowing the land, place a Wooden Slab (color of your choice, but Birch looks great) over the stretch of Water so you can walk around without having to swim in the Water or accidentally destroying crops.
