These items are miscellaneous tools that don’t follow the crafting rules of those mentioned so far (not made with mostly Wood, Cobblestone, Iron, Gold, or Diamond). These items have no tiers.
Fishing Rod/Carrot on a Stick
The Fishing Rod can be used to catch fish, but can also be used to pull Minecarts and mobs closer to you. To fish, tap on a source of Water. When you see bubbles moving toward the bobber at the end of the rod, this means a fish is coming. Once the bobber sinks under the Water, tap to reel the fish in. The fish lands somewhere near you, at which point you simply need to pick it up.
The Carrot on a Stick version can be used to lead pigs while you’re riding them.
Flint and Steel
Flint and Steel is used to light blocks on fire. Only Wood and Wool blocks burn away. Flint and Steel is also used to activate Nether Portals and ignite TNT. You can use Flint and Steel to burn mobs, players, or animals. If you burn an animal, it eliminates the need to cook their meat later—if they drop any.
Shears
Shears are used to collect leaves, Wool from sheep, String from cobwebs, ferns, dead bushes, and vines.
Compass
The Compass points you in the direction of your spawn point. When the red needle points straight up, that means going forward is the way to the spawn point.
Map
Maps allow you to see an overhead view of the world. You’re displayed on the Map and shown the direction you’re facing—if you add a Compass to the map on an Anvil. To make the Map bigger, add more paper to it on an Anvil. To get more coverage on a Map, have it in your hands and move toward an undiscovered location. The new portion appears on the Map.
Clock
The Clock shows you the sun and the moon and where they are relative to the horizon. This mostly comes in handy if you’re mining and want to know whether it’s day or night.
Lead
The Lead holds any animal or mob it can grab and keeps them from moving—if you attach it to a fence—or causes them to follow you while you’re holding it. This is primarily used for horses.
Saddle
The Saddle is used on pigs, mules, donkeys, and horses so you can ride them. Simply tap on the animal with the Saddle and hop on (by tapping it again).
Bucket
The Bucket is used to hold Water, Milk, and Lava. To fill or empty the Bucket, tap on the liquid you want to obtain. To get Milk, tap on a cow while holding the Bucket.
Water Buckets can be used for farming or to eliminate a patch of Lava while mining. Milk can be used to make a Cake, or drunk to get rid of status effects. Lava Buckets can be used to make Cobblestone or traps.
Totem of Undying
If you take fatal damage while it’s equipped in your hand, the Totem of Undying prevents you from dying. If you don’t want it in your right hand, it can be equipped in your left. To do this, go to the armor slots and place it in the fifth slot. When the totem activates, it’s consumed from the inventory and leaves you with half a Heart remaining with some status effects for Regeneration II, 40 seconds of Fire Resistance II, and five seconds of Absorption II.
