Prometheans are military constructs created by Forerunners to serve as frontline warriors in their vast armies. Possessing state-of-the-art combat tactics, Promethean forces are highly organized, extremely dangerous adversaries to encounter on the field.
Crawler
Crawlers are construct quadrupeds that scamper across the battlefield on all fours, quickly closing on their prey. Like Grunts and Jackals, Crawlers aim to overwhelm their quarry with vast numbers and attacks from all sides. When not attacking up close, Crawlers commonly fire Boltshots and Suppressors from afar. Aim for the head to bring Crawlers to a halt.
» Swift hostiles that often seek to overwhelm you with superior numbers, Crawlers surround you and strike from all sides.
» They’re quite accurate with ranged Boltshot and Suppressor fire. Quickly thin them out with grenades and headshots or you’ll be cut down by their weapons’ tracking fire.
» Their aggressive nature sets them up for headshots. Aim for the head with a Magnum, Battle Rifle, DMR, Carbine, or LightRifle to record fast kills.
» Whenever possible, fall back and allow Crawlers to advance ahead of Soldiers and Knights, separating them from their powerful allies.
Knight
The Promethean army’s most formidable warriors, Knights tower above all others on the battlefield, instilling terror in enemy ranks. Think of Knights as Soldiers on steroids: They’re stronger and tougher, and they can suddenly bound into close range to deliver devastating blows or lethal blasts from their Scattershots or Incineration Cannons. Knights are protected by thick plates of armor, which can be dismantled just like that of a Soldier. For the fastest takedowns, use grenades or explosive weaponry, or target the glowing cores near the Knight’s arms. Destroy these cores to expose the Knight’s vulnerable back, or keep landing headshots to uncover its susceptible head. Once it’s exposed, target a Knight’s head or back to quickly defeat it.
» Knights are heavily armored, but they’re not as tough as Hunters. A few good blasts with powerful weapons like Rocket Launchers or Incineration Cannons will bring them down.
» When power weapons aren’t an option, fire on the glowing cores on a Knight’s sides. Destroy both cores to expose the Knight’s back core—its most vital area.
» Knights’ faceplates can also be blown off, exposing their glowing skulls to headshots. Blast a Knight’s head with ranged fire if you can’t seem to get behind it.
» Knights commonly wield Scattershots or Incineration Cannons, and they enjoy leaping into close quarters to unload lethal blasts. Fall back and unload your own heavy fire to stagger the Knight, tossing grenades and thrusting away as needed to avoid being annihilated.
» Scoring a direct hit with a Spartan Charge or Ground Pound will momentarily stagger Knights. They'll brace if you try and run over them in a vehicle; you can’t splatter them from the front.
Soldier
New to the Halo universe, Promethean Soldiers are cunning, nimble construct warriors encountered in vast numbers throughout the Campaign. Soldiers do not utilize regenerative shields; instead, a suit of protective armor covers their vulnerable spots, which are known as cores. Blast away a Soldier’s armor to expose its cores at the head and chest—Suppressors and Boltshots work best for stripping armor. Target either of the exposed cores to quickly finish off the Soldier, but beware of their ability to teleport—they will use this to escape from a losing battle or to quickly close in for a sudden melee strike!
» Soldiers are swift ground troops that can phase into or out of firing range at a moment’s notice. Hammer them with gunfire at every chance, aiming to finish them off fast.
» Suppressors and Boltshots work best at stripping their armor, but they’re not effective at damaging their cores. Switch to a headshot-capable weapon—such as a Magnum, Battle Rifle, DMR, Carbine, or LightRifle—to deal the final blow, or blast them up close with Shotgun, Scattershot, or full-auto fire.
» Soldier Captains often carry Splinter Turrets, seeking to bombard you with heavy blasts from afar. Use their turrets against their allies after they fall.
» Soldier Snipers will swiftly delete you with their LightRifles and lethal Binary Rifles. Take cover whenever you’re sighted by a Sniper's Binary Rifle, and follow the red targeting laser back to the Sniper's position.
Warden
A towering Forerunner warrior, the Warden Eternal is an extremely dangerous adversary. It is heavily armored but features a glowing weak spot on its back. When battled at range, the Warden regularly casts out large, slow-moving orbs that home in on their target. Should an orb find its mark, the target is quickly obliterated; the blast is so severe that it will even penetrate thin forms of cover. Battling the Warden up close is equally risky, because the construct wields a massive blade to great effect. Either keep distance from the Warden and remain near thick, effective cover as you pick shots at it from afar, or thrust to avoid its melee attacks and counter with close-range blasts to the Warden’s vulnerable back.
» The most powerful adversary you face during the Campaign. Its attacks are devastating, and it can withstand tremendous damage, even to its weak spots.
» It has two ranged attacks: an eye beam and an energy orb. The eye beam is fast, powerful, and tough to dodge, while the energy orb is slow but lethal if it connects. Thrust to dodge the eye beams, and remain near thick cover to defend against the orbs.
» Whenever possible, fight the Warden from afar, picking shots at its head with ranged weapons such as Sniper Rifles, Beam Rifles, and Binary Rifles. Less effective but still useful ranged weapons include LightRifles, DMRs, Battle Rifles, and Carbines.
» Avoid fighting the Warden up close on harder difficulties. If you must do battle up close, thrust to avoid its attacks and counter with a Shotgun or Scattershot blast to the Warden’s back, or some other form of powerful attack. See if you can keep staggering the Warden by assailing its back with sustained heavy fire.
Watcher
Serving a support role for Promethean forces, Watchers fly around the battlefield in search of Crawlers, Soldiers, and Knights to shelter with Hardlight Shields. Watchers can also repair damaged allies, restoring their armor and healing them back to full vigor. Grenades that you throw or launch from Plasma Casters can be caught and tossed back at you by Watchers, as can missiles fired from Hydra Launchers. Watchers can also simply fire their blasters at you from on high, taking a more direct approach to the battle. Watchers can make simple firefights far more challenging, but they can’t withstand much damage. Exploit their weakness and annihilate Watchers with fast-firing weapons such as the Assault Rifle or Suppressor before taking the fight to their allies.
» Agile and elusive fliers, Watchers support other Prometheans by shielding them and restoring their damaged armor.
» They can fire blasters at enemies and toss grenades back at their owners.
» Watchers are tough to hit but easily destroyed when caught by small-arms fire. Full-auto rifles like the Assault Rifle, SMG, SAW, and Suppressor work best for defeating them.
» Mark Watchers as priority targets for your teams and they’ll shoot them down for you in short order.
