Halo 5: Guardians Guide › Campaign Walkthrough › Mission 6: Evacuation

Major Firefight: Space Elevator Outpost

The Space Elevator outpost hasn’t escaped the erupting chaos. The place is a fiery ruin, and many Promethean Soldiers and Crawlers must be defeated before you can safely access the Space Elevator itself. The Soldier Snipers perched on the right platform and stationed near the Space Elevator’s door are most troublesome—eliminate them first when advancing on these locations.

Recommended Loadout

You didn’t have much chance to stop for weapons along the way to this clash, so your Battle Rifle and Magnum will have to do at first. Use the Battle Rifle primarily until you find better arms; there are plenty of useful munitions around the outpost.

Objective: Secure the Outpost

Debris blocks your vehicular advance 6, so abandon your Warthog or Mongoose and eliminate the first few Crawlers and Soldiers that engage you. Swap your Magnum for their Suppressors afterward, then advance past the debris and into the yard. (The nearby watchtower that previously held a Spartan Laser now holds nothing of interest.)

Achievement: Savior

You’re not alone in your fight to secure the outpost; several of Meridian’s militia miners are also fighting to reach the Space Elevator. You’ll earn an Achievement if you can keep at least six of these miners alive throughout this ordeal, but this is no easy feat, for it must be accomplished on Heroic or Legendary difficulty. Stick close to the miners and don’t let them draw too much fire. Strive to defeat enemies swiftly, and mark any foes that are firing on miners as priority targets for Osiris. If too many miners meet their demise, restart from the previous checkpoint and try again. You’ll earn the Achievement once you’ve shepherded six or more miners onto the Space Elevator and secured the Space Elevator platform.

As during your first visit to this hot spot, the central low ground is extremely dangerous and should be avoided. We recommend clearing out the platform on the left first, for it features a variety of excellent heavy weapons. Cut down the Soldiers defending the stairs on your left 7, grabbing more Suppressor ammo as you advance upstairs to secure the platform.

The left platform features a large crate 8 that makes for excellent cover. Valuable weapons near this crate include a Battle Rifle, a Sniper Rifle, a Hydra Launcher, and a Gauss Turret. First, use the Sniper Rifle or Battle Rifle to pick off the Soldier Snipers on the opposite platform 9, then target any other remote Soldiers.

Legendary Strategy

The Space Elevator outpost features more Promethean defenders on Legendary difficulty, and the Soldier Snipers on the right 9 are deadly. Secure the left platform first, then use the Hydra to annihilate the Snipers and Soldier Captain over on the right. Grab the Gauss Turret afterward and unload on other nearby Soldiers. You’ll need all available weaponry when storming the Space Elevator’s door—check the map for additional power weapon locations. Beware the Soldier near the Space Elevator door wielding a Hydra Launcher; a Sniper Rifle or other powerful ranged weaponry is ideal for the drop.

When you run out of Sniper Rifle ammo, take up the nearby Gauss Cannon (detach it from its turret mount) and lay waste to more Soldiers. Drop the Gauss Cannon when it runs dry and trade your empty Sniper Rifle for a Hydra Launcher. Advance on the Space Elevator’s door with a Hydra and a fully loaded Suppressor or Battle Rifle. Use the latter weaponry to mow down Crawlers as you press forward.

Additional Soldiers (including Snipers) spawn near the Space Elevator’s door as you approach 10. Fall back to cover and use the Hydra to wipe out the Soldiers from a safe range. (Try to establish target locks to ensure the Hydra’s rockets find their mark.) If you need more firepower, check the office on the left platform’s middle level to find a Rocket Launcher, or raid the right platform 9 for additional arms, including two DMRs, a SAW, and a Rocket Turret.

Alternate Approach

If you really dislike shootouts against Soldier Snipers, you can begin the battle by advancing on the right platform 9 instead of the left. Rush forward from the entry gate and climb onto the roof of the supply shed 11, then turn right and climb onto the platform. You’ll be right near a pair of DMRs, a SAW, and a Rocket Turret. Trade your weapons for a SAW and DMR, and use the SAW to cut down the nearby Soldier Snipers. After that, use their Binary Rifles in combination with the DMR and Rocket Turret to annihilate the Promethean forces below.

Batter the Soldiers to cripple them before advancing on the door with a Suppressor to mop up what’s left. The Elevator Door opens once the yard is secure; make a quick sweep for weapons and ammo before heading inside to shelter.

Ready to Launch

Look for a Hydra Launcher dropped by one of the last few Soldiers guarding the Space Elevator door. Be sure to bring it with you if you find it; the extra firepower will come in handy.
