Skulls are the rarest collectibles in Halo 5: Guardians. Most missions feature one or two Skulls, and each Skull lets you alter your Campaign experience in a variety of ways. This table gives basic info on where to find each Skull and the effects of activating each one. Turn to the Campaign walkthrough if you need more help in tracking down each Skull.
Skulls
| Name | Mission | Location | Effect | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
IWHBYD |
1: Osiris |
On the ledge to the left of the door leading to the Forerunner security station. |
This Skull makes all uncommon dialogue more common, while common dialogue becomes rarely heard. |
Black Eye |
2: Blue Team |
In the side room near the Reactor Controls (use the thick pipes on the room’s left wall). |
Shields no longer regenerate. The only way to regenerate shields is to melee an enemy. |
Iron |
3: Glassed |
Appears in one of three locations around the Scorpion Garage area, but only if you play on Legendary and use the Scorpion to shoot down the Phaeton that’s chasing a mining cargo ship during your final approach to the Meridian Station Gate. |
Dying causes you to restart at the very start of the mission, rather than at the last checkpoint. |
Blind |
5: Unconfirmed |
In a crawlspace above the ceiling pipes in the passage that connects the outdoor quarry to the indoor mine. |
Removes all HUD elements and your character’s hands/weapons, forcing you to play without knowing which weapon you’re holding or how much ammo you’ve got. |
Thunderstorm |
6: Evacuation |
On the ground during the final sprint to the Pelican, but only if you destroy all five traffic cones during the initial dash to the Space Elevator outpost. |
Promotes all Campaign enemies to their highest-ranking versions. No more lowly Grunts or Elites for you! |
Grunt Party |
7: Reunion |
Held by a singing Grunt on a lookout ledge not far from the first Covenant encounter. Punt the Grunt to obtain it. |
Grunts killed by headshots explode into colorful confetti. Grunts not killed by headshots explode like grenades, damaging everything nearby. |
Cloud |
7: Reunion |
On a Forerunner platform at the very end of the mission. Turn right as you exit the Phaeton canyon to find it. |
Disables the motion sensor HUD element, preventing you from tracking nearby enemies. |
Mythic |
Atop a pillar as you exit the ruin above the sinkhole. Climb the surrounding broken pillars and leap across them to reach the Skull, initiating Ground Pounds and thrusting for maximum distance and hang time. |
Doubles the health of all enemies, letting them sustain far more damage before falling. |

Catch |
10: Enemy Lines |
Inside the Kraken. Fly one of the Banshees up to the ledges above the green-lit tunnels that lead to the Kraken’s power core. |
Enemies carry and throw far more grenades. Explosions everywhere! |
Cowbell |
12: Battle of Sunaion |
At the end of the broken street where the Warden appears. Move to the very edge of the street so that you’re closest to the distant Guardian, then carefully drop down onto the twisted metal beam below you. |
Triples the explosive force of all explosive weaponry (grenades, missiles, rockets, etc.). |
Tilt |
13: Genesis |
Atop a rock formation near the spot where the Warden first appears. |
Drastically reduces weapon effectiveness when firing on unfavorable targets. Conventional weapons like Assault Rifles have little impact against shields. Energy weapons like Storm Rifles have little effect against flesh and armor. Promethean weapons like the Boltshot and Suppressor inflict minimal damage to weak points. |
Famine |
14: The Breaking |
Underneath the platform where the Warden first spawns, about halfway through the mission. |
Weapons dropped in combat by fallen allies and enemies contain far less ammo. Make every shot count! |
Tough Luck |
15: Guardians |
On a high ledge above Gamma Core, near the wreckage of a downed Pelican. |
Enemies are far more alert and evasive, leaping out of the way of grenades and heavy fire. |
