Cane-Sword: Sir Lemay’s Cane

Location: Moving Carriage, Southwark

Follow the moving assassin icon in Southwark to locate Pearl Attaway’s carriage, which is in constant motion. You do not need to hijack the carriage, simply run up next to it and press / to start the memory. Inside the carriage, Pearl seems distraught and tells Jacob that she told him to make an appointment but gives him the details of the next job regardless. This mission pertains to internal combustion engines (a new invention back then). She wants you to steal them before they’re shipped to Millner by train.

Current Objective: Locate Ned Wynert

Ned Wynert has been taken into custody and is being moved from Southwark (1) to the City of London (2), crossing the large bridge across The Thames along the way. Get a carriage and follow the caravan consisting of three police carriages. Activate Eagle Vision to locate the one with Ned inside. Ned glows yellow. The objective is updated once you have located Ned (who is in the lead police carriage).

Current Objective: Free Ned Wynert

Challenge: Do not kill a single policeman from the convoy

To free Ned without killing any policemen all you need is a few Smoke Bombs. Stop the convoy by pulling your cart in their path. You need the cops on Ned’s cart to exit and come after you. Throw a Smoke Bomb at the front of the convoy and the police and their horses become frantic. The convoy breaks up and the lead carriage with Ned in it takes off, pulling away from the convoy with or without the police onboard. The cart stops one or two city blocks away.

If the cart with Ned becomes unoccupied and the cops are not far behind, hijack it and take it someplace more secure. You cannot free Ned from the back until you have become anonymous. So if you are on foot, Rope Launch to the rooftops, duck around a corner, or enter an alley until you become anonymous. Losing the cops’ attention takes more time than losing the Blighter’s attention, so be patient, and keep moving and hiding. Once you are anonymous, return to the cart and free Ned.

Ned is grateful and curious why Jacob took time to save him. He kindly helps Ned out of the wagon and invites him to assist with the current job.

Current Objective: Search the crates

Challenge: Detach the two reinforcement wagons

The mission picks up with Ned and Jacob on a train leaving the City of London train station (3). There are three green blips onscreen and on the Mini-Map. These represent the locations of the three crates you must search. These crates travel on a train moving in the same direction as yours but on parallel tracks.

Crate 1 and Detach Wagon 1

Head forward on the train, jumping up to the rooftop of the next car. From there you can see Millner’s train running beside you. Run toward the front of your train so you can jump to the last car of the adjacent train. If you are quick enough from the start (when you gain control of Jacob) you can catch the second car on the adjacent train and acquire an Air Attack lock-on on the Blighter near the first crate. Air Assassinate this Soldier or jump to the car and eliminate him.

Walk up to the back edge of the second car and face the caboose. Detach the last car from the train to satisfy the first of the two Challenge duties.

Now search the crate on your car (it glows yellow when Eagle Vision is activated). Jacob finds the crate empty.

Crate 2

Leap to the next car forward and sneak to the top of the coal barrels. Walk forward until you acquire the Double Air Assassination lock-on for both Blighters standing side-by-side with their backs to you. Air Assassinate these two and leap to the next train car.

From the top of the next train car you can see three Blighters and another crate to search that are two cars up the line. Use throwing knives from a distance to eliminate the enemy or shoot a couple with hallucinogenic darts and let them fight amongst themselves.

Jump to that car and eliminate the survivors and search the crate. Jacob discovers this one is empty as well.

Crate 3

Leap to the next armored car (another reinforcement wagon) and walk to the far edge to acquire a Double Air Assassination lock-on on the two Blighters in the next car, which also holds the last crate. Search the crate which has the engine you’re looking for. Turn back towards the last car you were on and detach it to complete the Challenge.

Current Objective: Detach the cargo wagon

Now that you’ve found what you are looking for, head east to the front of the car and face the car with the patrolling Watcher. Walk up to the Detach marker between cars and before detaching it, make sure you remain on the car with the final crate. Detach the cars ahead from the car you are on. This keeps Millner’s train moving along the tracks with its remaining Blighters and leaves you with the car containing the engine. The train with Ned on it on the parallel track is quickly approaching.

Current Objective: Defend Ned

The train that Ned is riding on quickly catches up to the Blighter’s train (since the engine was detached). Defending Ned is no longer a challenge since you have detached the two Blighter reinforcement wagons; there are no Blighters to protect him from. Simply jump trains and approach Ned to complete the mission. In the ending cinematic, Ned questions Jacob’s decision to just give the engines away to his new partner. Jacob coldly reassures Ned not to worry; he will get paid for his involvement regardless.
